Youth Solutions' E News for April 2014

E News July 2014

Message from the CEO – Geraldine Dean

Geraldine Dean

Firstly, thank you to our E Newsletter subscribers who read our publication each month.
Our Annual Charity Golf Day was held at Campbelltown Golf Club on 9 May 2014 and was a huge success. Wet weather washed out the first date planned for March, but nothing could keep the keen golfers from the green this time around, with 36 players showing off their fine golfing skills. A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, donors, players and supporters who helped ensure the event was success.
In other news, Youth Solutions helped community members take some time out last month, at its first Movie Night at Event Cinemas Campbelltown on 2 June 2014. The screening of X-Men: Days of Future Past proved to be a great night out and is something we hope to include again on next year’s calendar.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Wollondilly Mayor Benn Banasik for choosing Youth Solutions as the beneficiary of his Mayoral Charity Golf Day, which was held at Antill Park Country Golf Club on 27 June 2014. It was a fantastic day and the funds raised will help Youth Solutions to continue its work supporting young people in the Macarthur and Wingecarribee regions.
Please read on for more details about the Mayoral Charity Golf Day, what else has been happening at Youth Solutions and what we are up to in the next few months.

A warm welcome to Youth Solutions' two new team members Corin Boughton and Amanda Partridge. Both Corin and Amanda joined the team on 10 June 2014.
Corin joins the team as the Program Officer – Engagement and will participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of Service programs and activities, in particular alcohol and other drug prevention and health promotion strategies.
Amanda joins the team as the Program Officer – Communications and Marketing and will develop, implement and evaluate marketing and community relation strategies; support the development, implementation and evaluation of Service programs; and co-ordinate fundraising events and activities.

Mayoral Charity Golf Day

Keen putters and drivers were out in force in Picton recently for Wollondilly’s Annual Mayoral Charity Golf Day.

Wollondilly Mayor Benn Banasik selected Youth Solutions as the beneficiary of this year’s event which was held at Antill Park Country Golf Club on 27 June 2014. The event was at capacity and golfers enjoyed breakfast, lunch, a host of prizes and 18 holes of golf.

The funds raised from the event will help Youth Solutions continue its support of young people in the Macarthur and Wingecarribee regions. It will assist Youth Solutions to provide a specialist resource in youth drug and alcohol prevention and maintain drug and alcohol prevention strategies in an effort to prevent and reduce alcohol and drug related harm among young people.

The Youth Solutions team would like to offer a huge thank you to Mayor Banasik and all of the event players and supporters.

Website of the month

The Australian Drug Foundation has launched a new SMS service Get the effects by txt! The SMS service provides instantaneous drug information via mobile text message.

How does it work? Simply text a drug name to 0439 TELL ME (0439 835 563) and you will receive a reply text with authoritative drug information direct to your mobile phone. The reply text lists a number of the drug’s effects and links to further information and support services.

For more information, check out the Australian Drug Foundation's website.
Thanks to Wollondilly Shire Council for teaming up with us to host the Mud Fun Mural Project at Wollondilly Community Nursery in Picton recently. Making the mural with the region's young people was loads of fun.
We are looking forward to more of our 'Drug, Alcohol and Resilience Education' (DARE) workshops with schools in Macarthur and Wingecarribee this year. If you are interested in having our team run workshops with young people at your school or organisation, get in touch!
Youth Solutions had a great time working with young creative minds to produce an awesome mural artwork at Camden Youth Week recently. Thanks to Camden Council for having us at the event.
Youth Solutions will team up with students from James Meehan High School next term to create an art mural. The students will get creative during a workshop at Glenquarie Library during term 3.
