Youth Solutions' E News for February 2015

E News February 2015

Message from the CEO

Welcome to our first E-Newsletter for 2015!

We hope you all had a safe and happy holiday period and that 2015 is already proving to be a great year for each of you.

We are just one month into the new year and Youth Solutions is already filling up the calendar with some great workshops and events.

Our Program Officers will hit the ground running this school term, heading back into the region's classrooms next week to deliver our DARE workshops.

We have also established some new partnerships and look forward to delivering more of our SAFE Series workshops in the coming weeks and months.

Thank you to all of those schools, organisations, businesses and supporters who have already begun working with us this year. We know 2015 will hold great things for us all.

Please read on for more details about the great projects, activities and events we are working on.

Youth tobacco campaign gains momentum

Youth Solutions CEO Geraldine Dean receives a grant from Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak.

Youth Solutions' Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is preparing to launch a new campaign encouraging young people to make healthier and safer choices around tobacco smoking.

The social media-driven campaign will centre around a new website which has been funded by Camden Council's Community Small Grants program.

Youth Solutions CEO Geraldine Dean accepted the grant from Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak in late 2014.

"We are so grateful to receive this grant and support from Camden Council," she said.

"Our YAG are working really closely with our Program Officers on this campaign and they can't wait to present it to the community."

The campaign is expected to be launched within the coming weeks.

Campaign Keeps it in Check

Youth Advisory Group member Lana and Youth Solutions Volunteer Anna run a Keep it in Check stall at Campbelltown Catholic Club.

Youth Solutions has wrapped up the last of its community stalls as part of the Keep it in Check campaign.

Campbelltown Catholic Club partnered with Youth Solutions to deliver the safer celebrations campaign during the festive period, encouraging young people to take positive steps to keep their nights out in check.

As part of the campaign, Youth Solutions hosted 6 stalls at Campbelltown Catholic Club and ran stalls and activities at community events.

Since its launch last November, the campaign has engaged with almost 1700 young people.

There is still time to complete the campaign survey and we also encourage you to visit Youth Solutions' YouTube channel to check out the campaign video.

The campaign was also supported by C91.3FM and the Campbelltown-Macarthur, Camden-Narellan and Wollondilly Advertisers.

Website of the month

The OxyGen website tells young people the hard facts about smoking.

As well as offering smoking information and resources for both young people and schools, the website also features cool video clips and "Fact or Myth" games.

The website also contains information about quitting smoking, including how to help friends or family quit and the benefits of quitting. It encourages young people to be part of the tobacco-free OxyGeneration.
