Land of the Beardies Museum

Glen Innes is known as the ‘Land of the Beardies’ as its first settler, Archibald Boyd, was led there by two men with long, flowing beards.
 
Land of the Beardies Museum is one of the largest folk museums in country NSW.
 
The Museum occupies all of the original Glen Innes Hospital, built between 1877 and 1926 and closed 1956.
 
There are 25 rooms and 1.5 acres of grounds.  The grounds have parklands with farming machinery and wagons, with some in a large shed.
 
There is also a very impressive local history research section, with all local newspapers from 1874 until today and more than 10,000 local photographs.
