This Saturday 12-3pm, Banner and Placard Making in the garden

Dear Friend of Old Tidemill Wildlife Garden

As you may know, planning permission for the development that will demolish Reginald House and the wildlife garden were passed at the Strategic Planning Committee at the end of September. by Lewisham Council

We are awaiting a response from the Mayor of London, who we have asked to 'call-in' the application and reconsider it.

Meanwhile, we have joined forces with other local campaigns under the heading "No Social Cleansing in Lewisham" to increase the visibility of the campaigns by making banners and placards and any other ideas people may have for raising the profile and to have something visual regarding our resistance to share with the community and hopefully the press.

The garden will be open every Saturday from 12 - 3pm.  Some volunteers have made the cabin waterproof and Rankine from Madcap, has agreed to lend us a marquee for the amphitheatre.  We will build a fire if necessary to keep people warm and have teas and coffees available for volunteers.

If you have any materials like acrylic or gloss paints, rope/string, placard materials, marker pens or access to more wood please bring them down to help resource the activities.    We will be purchasing some banner material with the money raised at the event Andy Worthington organised at the Bird's Nest on 12th November and we hope to organise more of those events in the new year.

Hoping to see you at the garden one Saturday.

Best wishes

Campaign Update

Sadly on 27 September 2017 Lewisham Planning Committee voted in favour of the Reginald Road Development , condemning the future of the garden and 16 homes at Reginald House.

The committee hearing was well attended by local residents and garden campaigners but sadly our efforts fell short of convincing our local councillors to rethink this development for the benefit of Deptford.

The council voted 4 in favour 2 against the approval of the scheme;

FOR APPROVAL: Councillors De Ryk (Chair), Bonavia, Onokosi and Reid

AGAINST: Councillors Clarke and Coughlin

What have we done since

We’ve sent a letter to Sadiq Khan asking him to review Lewisham Council’s decision, this was sent on 29 September. We must also thank Len Duvall for his continued support for the campaign from the GLA Assembly.

We’ve also appeared on LondonLive making our case visible on October 03 >> https://youtu.be/NGofuzaVB7Y

This letter has been supported via a Lewisham Deptford Labour Party General Committee - who passed a motion on the 12th October to review this decision.
