First of all, in Adelaide, South Australia, it’s Royal Show week and I am pleased to say that potatoes are a feature! Potatoes South Australia has teamed up with the Adelaide Produce Market (APM) on the Yellow Brick Road. Potato Cyst Nematode (PCN) Management

Vic DPI’s Risk Based Regulatory Reform Model (RBRRM)

In November 2012 national regulators (except Western Australia) endorsed the implementation of a Risk Based Regulatory Reform Model (RBRRM) for the control and management of Potato Cyst Nematode (PCN). The Department of Environment and Primary Industries have since been working along-side industry and interstate regulators developing the RBRRM for implementation. Read more...

The importation of potatoes from New Zealand for processing-Senate decision delayed again

The recommendation, following the Senate Inquiry in October 2012 into the importation of potatoes for processing from New Zealand, has been postponed again; until after the Federal election. Read more...

I was very fortunate to be invited by the CEO, Champak Mehta and the Board of Potatoes NZ to be a keynote speaker at their Conference and AGM held in Wellington on 31 July.

The Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) recently held a Forum in Melbourne to discuss issues faced by importers, exporters and various levels of government (stakeholders) in achieving market outcomes in the horticulture sectors-access and maintenance, imports and exports. Visit by Victorian Seed Potato Growers to South Australia

Elders Rural Services Australia Ltd commercial potato seed growers visited the South Australian industry last month.  The group, led by Elders’ Rene de Jong, travelled to some of the state’s key growing regions including the Mallee, Adelaide Hills and Northern Adelaide Plains.  I met up with them during the tour, which included visits to the major washing and packing organisations which some of them supply.

MEMBERSHIP - not a member yet?

The ‘members-only’ section of the Potatoes South Australia website is now functioning and members have specific login passwords/usernames. Currently it contains unique information including statistics, presentations, commissioned reports, financial and market summaries and corporate documents.  This section must provide a valued service to the industry.  Suggestions concerning what you really want and expect would be terrific as we want this site to work for you.
