Equal Pay Day is in April and marks how far into a year women would have to work to earn the same amount men earned the year before.
It's time to start having crucial conversations and change statistics.
April 4th was Equal Pay Day, and personally, I would like to live in a world where the term "wage gap" shall have been eradicated. Until then, I'd like to share some advice, and one of my personal favorite UWIB memories from past speaker and negotiations guru, Alexandra Dickinson, CEO of Ask For It (check out her Member Spotlight below!).
"Embrace the awkward. Negotiation is a muscle that you can strengthen with practice."
The first time I met Alex was at a UWIB happy hour co-hosted with Bossed Up Org. Alex encouraged us to do something REALLY scary - to tell the women around us how much we earn each year. I remember the sinking feeling and then sense of relief of turning to our former President Stephanie Huston (a.k.a @StrategicSteph) and telling her my salary! After, we shared our career goals and how we were going to practice openness more often. Happy to say that since then, we've both gotten better at negotiation!
Be brave, girlbosses, and share with us your favorite tips, tricks, worries, and success stories! We're here for you!

Women & Wealth: Managing Your Finances & Impact Investing
On March 22nd, the ladies of UWIB NYC hosted "Women & Wealth: Managing Your Finances & Impact Investing" with our very special guests Aisha Elezi and Natalie Engelhardt from Morgan Stanley. This session covered how to begin saving money to how to invest with impact.
Did you know that 44% of millennial women are putting more money into their morning coffee routine than their retirement plan?
Or that women contribute 33% less to their retirement plans than men? Or the fact that women currently make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes?
Look out for more programming events to be announced!
