Here’s a brief idea from me, and a few content recommendations that have the potential to shift your thinking in a significant way (this week – zero).
IDEA FROM ME:
A framework for career success:
In your 20’s – figure out what you’re good at and will enjoy. Try lots of different things.
In your 30’s – double down on what you’re good at. Build career capital and become highly valuable to others.
In your 40's and beyond – leverage the career capital you built in your 30’s. Build wealth. Take advantage of the autonomy you've earned and perfect your work / life balance.
A note on prioritising work in your life. If there’s a time to pull this card, it’s in your 20’s and some or most of your 30’s. You're going to need to put the work in, so you can reap the rewards and leverage it later in life. Don’t burn yourself out and be miserable. As you hit your late 30’s and beyond, you will be in a position to intentionally shift that balance.
(I'm working on a longer piece that expands on the above, and covers the common mistakes people tend to make in building a career)
THINGS TO SHARE:
I've watched, read and listened to a bunch of stuff this week – but nothing has jumped out as really good. So, we'll give it a skip this week. Hopefully it gives you the confidence I don't just put stuff in to fill the gaps ;-)
