The Living Future Europe newsletter
A summer like no other

The times we are experiencing are extremely difficult and the climate crisis has added its evident effects with a summer of temperatures never so high and Europe hit by an unprecedented drought. A radical change in the way we design and build our buildings, products, communities can no longer be postponed. We are working to create this change, also through education and dissemination opportunities to advance a culture of regenerative design and sustainability across Europe. May we count you in? Living Future Europe 2022 Masterclass: registrations are open!

The program is about to be finalised, same structure as last year, with some improvements. Registrations are open. Are you ready to become a leader of the Living Future Regenerative Design Movement? 😊

The ‘Living Future Europe 2022 Masterclass. Regenerative + Agile’ is an online educational program running between September and December 2022, where we want to address the ‘why’, the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ of living buildings, products, and communities.

  • Why – the rationale and urgency behind the need for a paradigm shift in the built environment design, construction and building management.
  • What– the most advanced applicable frameworks that developers, designers, builders, manufacturers can adopt to achieve this new type of regenerative buildings.
  • How – sound and robust examples and best practices immediately applicable, coming from the experience of our first 800+ ILFI registered building projects globally.

The Masterclass will include synchronous and asynchronous activities, with a balanced mix of insights, practical examples, and tools. We will work according to an Agile Framework using Agile tools and practices.

Biophilia Camp 2022

To safeguard our health, building biophilically is now an urgent imperative. To do this, an integrative and multidisciplinary approach is required, which can benefit from the immersive experience in nature, provided by this first Biophilia "camp" organized in Italy. Biophilia 2022 brings together professionals from all over Europe and trainers from different disciplines (biology, psychology, architecture, engineering, organization, and business strategy) in a formative exploration of the various aspects of biophilic design, to create professional figures capable of provoking a change in the built environment design, construction, and management.

Participants will enjoy staying at Felizitas (South Tyrol, Italy), living in harmony with nature, escaping their everyday life and regain energy, learning about the Living Building Challenge biophilic approach. Places are limited to a number of 15 participants from Europe, so we are encouraging to pre-register at this link to gain priority in the selection.

Main deadlines:

  • 31 July 2022: pre-registration (expression of interest)
  • 10 August 2022: early bird registration
  • 31 August 2022: final registration

This is only a part of our events program this year, stay tuned with the events page on LFE website.

Join the Million Advocates campaign

Million Advocates for Sustainable Science

Our partner My Green Lab together with the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories issued a challenge to science funders around the world to encourage sustainability in research. We invite scientists and sustainability advocates around the world to unite in pushing for change by joining the Million Advocates for Sustainable Science letter campaign.

The purpose of this campaign is to demonstrate support for systemic change within the global science funding system. Scientists and other stakeholders want to take action to improve and implement sustainability, resource efficiency, and resiliency within research laboratories.

Current funding structures generally do not encourage grantees or institutions to be environmentally sustainable. Signatories to this letter want to see the scientific field lead the world to a better climate future and are requesting action by research funders to set expectations for efficiency, resiliency, and sustainability in the way scientific research is conducted.
