When a delicate Irma Stern drawing is placed alongside a fluid Walter Battiss watercolour, or a vibrant Jack Heath landscape sits across from an atmospheric Pierneef, one can quite easily see how these artists, amongst others, have come to be regarded as South Africa’s Modern Masters. With works spanning a period of 70 years, EBONY’s upcoming group show pays homage to these influential doyens of the South African art scene.
The 'Modern Masters’ group exhibition will be held at EBONY’s Cape Town Gallery from the 6th August until the 1st September.
In addition to the works by Battiss, Stern, Heath and Pierneef we will also be showing iconic works by Erik Laubscher, Deborah Bell, George Diederick During, Norman Catherine, Jane Tully Heath, Hannes Harrs, Simon Stone, Michael Ayrton, Peter Clarke, Wim Blom, Robert Hodgins, Nathaniel Mokgosi and Alexis Preller.
