Yes! October is here and as well as the Rugby it brings our favourite season here at PHAST as we look forward to cosy nights in by the fire. Having said that, you will see that in this seasons edition we would urge you to get out of the house and attend the inaugural Global Health Film Festival to be launched this year on Oct 30 and 31, it looks set to be an interesting event with an exciting mission to leverage the media of film to spark change in the global health arena. Another global health forum that has piqued our interest this autumn is the 2 day event on November 13 and 14 hosted by Medact and a number of other organisations who are calling on the UK health community to promote health by confronting war and the root drivers of global insecurity - Health through Peace. PHAST will certainly be there to contribute what we can to the debate.
But first, the Ultimate Solution for GP Federations is PHAST's Clinical Strategic and Informatics Support Unit. Effective support for GP practices as they federate to protect or enhance their positions is key, as funds are limited and time is of the essence. PHAST are offering their skills to support these federations by either refining current pathways or by recasting new models of care provision and access thereby saving funds within 1 year. If you, or indeed your network would like to discuss this further please do get in touch with us today.
Films to Inspire Change
We are inspired this month by what looks set to become the first annual Global Health Film Festival. The initiative is a partnership between the Royal Society of Medicine, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. We all know that film has the power to communicate stories, stir emotions, inspire action and redress health inequities and this event hopes to leverage that by using film as a catalyst for discussion and change in the global health arena. The festival launches on October 30th 2015, for registration and programme highlights follow this link.
Shirley Cramer & Layth Hanbali
Our Friends and Associates meeting was a great success, we were delighted to welcome Shirley Cramer CBE and chief executive of the RSPH whose key note outlining the RSPH's vision for health was both informative and thought provoking. You can review the full presentation here.
We also welcomed Layth Hanbali, Medsin's
new National Director whose inspirational talk on their mission to create a network of students empowered to effect tangible social and political change in health can be viewed here.
