Join us in celebrating our amazing Founder and Executive Director, Erica Mosca, who has been awarded the Education Hero Award from the Public Education Foundation of Las Vegas!! This award honors community heroes who stepped up on behalf of students and families during the COVID-19 crisis.
When the state closed schools due to the pandemic, Erica took swift action. She surveyed over 130 LIT students, families, and volunteers to see how LIT could best serve them during this time. Her goal was to ensure students and families stayed connected, productive, and consistent, despite the effects of COVID-19. As a result, Erica created a free online education resource hub, supported families with basic needs (food, toilet paper, laptops, etc.), and organized the LIT family to serve community partners in the Las Vegas area, like the Nevada Hispanic Legislative Caucus' COVID-19 Patient Support Program and Nevada Direct Care to Kids Program. LIT was also able to facilitate direct aid in cash payments of $500 to families after securing a $100,000 grant through the Give Together Now Campaign sponsored by the Stand Together Foundation & Families Independence Initiative. Wanting to support more families in the community, Erica then led the efforts to raise another $200,000 that was awarded to seven other local non-profits to support their families through COVID-19.
Ms. Mosca will be honored at the 24th Annual Education Hero Award Gala, which takes place virtually on Friday, September 11 from 7 - 8:30pm PT. Visit thepef.org/hero to learn more about this event and attend the Gala!
Thank you for everything you do for LIT students and families and our community, Ms. Mosca!!!
