In the News

An important opinion piece from Gary Press, Chairman, South Florida Business & Wealth was recently published. Titled, Florida Legislature Drops the Job Growth Ball, it looks at the impact of the non-renewal of Florida's QTI tax refund program.

He notes:

"While incentive programs such as QTI are ultimately not the only reason a company chooses to locate in Florida, having these programs puts Florida “on the list” of states that are seriously committed to fighting for jobs for its citizens. As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, we need every possible tool to remain competitive. This is the time government should help our state recover—not put us at a disadvantage compared to other states."
Amazon is hiring hundreds of full-time jobs at its Deltona Fulfillment Center.

The company plans to create more than 500 new, full-time jobs generating capital investment exceeding $100 million. Job postings are currently online and hiring will begin over the next couple of weeks.

“This is a textbook example of how collaboration among community resources can result in such a major project riding a fast track from site selection to grand opening,” said Keith Norden, CEcD, President and CEO of Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation.

GrowFL is Proud to Announce Nperspective CFO & Strategic Services as title sponsor for the 2020 GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch Awards Celebration.

The company supports the success of scalable second-stage growth companies across the state of Florida, offering fractional CFO and financial services.

FEDC Seeking Members for 2020-21 Committees and Task Forces.

On August 25, the FEDC Board of Directors approved the FY2020-21 Budget and Program of Work. The board ratified the formation of the FEDC Economic Recovery Task Force being led by Vice-Chair of Advocacy & Communications, Michelle Bauer, CEcD, COO of Tampa Bay EDC.

Over 40 members and strategic partners are meeting weekly to address the lack of state-level incentive programs as outlined in the opening article by Gary Press. A program is being drafted for key agency and legislative leadership consideration that will draw upon the strengths and improve the deficiencies of the recently closed tax refund program and emphasize the importance of Florida as a leader in manufacturing re-shoring.
Additionally, FEDC will continue the great work of each Strategic Doing Task Force under the guidance of Stuart Rogel, President, Graylan Ventures. We encourage all members to choose a task force in which to participate:
  • Florida 2030 Goals and Regional Strategies
  • Membership Growth & Engagement
  • FEDC Resource Development & Organizational Capacity
And finally, FEDC’s standing committees for FY2020-21 are seeking your involvement and expertise.
  • 2021 Annual Conference, Scarlett Phaneuf, CEcD, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, Chair
  • Professional Development, Keith Norden, CEcD, Team Volusia EDC, Vice Chair
  • Governance/ByLaws, Bob Swindell, Chair
Please contact Jill Blackman at to engage in one or more of these task forces and standing committees.
