Would you like to serve on the FEDC Board? Great! It is that time of year again when wonderful members like yourself step up to continue the success of the FEDC. The deadline for nominations for the FEDC Board of Directors is approaching.

Please take a moment to consider nominating yourself or a willing and able colleague. Email your nominations to Amy Evancho at by Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 5pm Eastern Time.  Please note all nominees must be a current FEDC member in good standing.

The Hotel Room deadline is also quickly approaching for the 2014 FEDC Conference in Tampa Bay. If you have not booked your room for the conference, please do so today. The special rates offered by Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay expire on May 15, 2014. Please visit our conference website for more details on the rooms available and book your room today!

And of course, if you have not yet joined your peers in registering for the 2014 FEDC Conference, do that at the same time you book your hotel room. The 2014 FEDC Conference is a celebration of our 50th Anniversary and includes a variety of breakout sessions that are sure to impress!

April 2014 National Employment and Unemployment Press Release
The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) press release covering national employment and unemployment estimates for April 2014 and the BLS Commissioner’s statement released this morning are available for download: April 2014 National Employment and Unemployment Press Release
  • The national unemployment rate was 6.3 percent in April 2014, down 0.4 percentage point from the March rate of 6.7 percent and down 1.2 percentage points from 7.5 percent a year ago.
  • Total nonagricultural employment was 138,252,000 in April 2014, an increase of 288,000 jobs (+0.2 percent) over the month and an increase of 2,367,000 jobs (+1.7 percent) over the year. 
Northrop Grumman is 'Mystery' Project Magellan Company
The identity of the company has been kept confidential. But multiple sources with direct knowledge of the project have told FLORIDA TODAY that Northrop Grumman is the company behind the project that could bring 1,800 jobs to Melbourne International Airport paying an average of $100,000 a year. The project also involves a $500 million capital investment. Read More

A Tampa Bay area company and major player in the technology solutions provider market is expanding its West Coast presence while adding jobs locally. Read More

Lufthansa Technik Announces Expansion in Miramar
Governor Rick Scott announced that Lufthansa Technik, an aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) industry company, will consolidate and expand its South Florida regional office in Miramar. The project will create a capital investment of $114,000 and will create 24 jobs in the region. Read More

TECNAM Ramps Up at Sebring Regional Airport
“Even though we just moved in, we have accomplished our first delivery, a P2008 Turbo to a customer that purchased at U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in January. From order to delivery took just 90 days for a brand new manufactured airplane to customer specifications,” said Shannon Yeager, Director of Sales. Read More

Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance Mid-Year Luncheon to Feature Keynote by Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, Jobs Announcements and Special Presentations
The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance will hold its Mid-Year Luncheon, presented by FPL, on Thursday, May 22, 2014. This must-attend event for Broward’s top business audience, will once again host more than 450 members and guests at the landmark Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six in Fort Lauderdale, featuring updates on company, jobs and targeted industry growth. Read More

BioNitrogen Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Initial Plant Site in Hendry County, FL
BioNitrogen Holdings Corp. (pinksheets:BION), a cleantech company that utilizes patented technology to build environmentally-friendly plants that convert biomass into urea fertilizer, announced today that it will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am on May 14, 2014, at the site of the company's initial plant in Hendry County, Florida. The ceremony will be held at the Weekley Brothers Industrial Park located at 3013 Evercane Road in Clewiston. Senior management of BioNitrogen and state and local officials will be in attendance and will discuss the plans for Hendry County. Read More
