Message from the
Executive Director

Jason Pearson, Executive Director

Earlier this week, registrations for our free Launch Event webcast blew past the 1,000 attendee mark, with people signing up from forty-three countries and dozens of industries. Registrations continue to pour in at a rate that could make this the largest webcast GreenBiz has ever hosted!

The Council's founding membership and partnerships continue to grow, as well.  Seven new members and one new partner (Practice GreenHealth) have come on board since our last newsletter.  More on our new members below.

We've heard from many of you that you are tuning in and signing on because you recognize that many of the thorniest challenges we face in purchasing sustainably are shared problems that require shared solutions.  Inconsistency in the way sustainable purchasing is defined, guided, measured and rewarded presents problems that none of us can solve on our own.  Tackling that challenge is a primary goal of this new multi-sector, multi-stakeholder Council.  Thank you for joining us in this effort.

Launch Event Preview

The Launch Event webcast will feature a great panel of speakers who will talk about the Council's mission, vision and programmatic plans.  They'll also explore how the Council's multi-sector, multi-stakeholder nature has the potential to strengthen and accelerate many sustainable purchasing initiatives already in existence within organizations, within regions, within industries and globally. Thanks to skillful moderating by Joel Makower, the panelists will also be answering your questions through-out the webcast - not just at the end!

New Founding Members

Since our last newsletter, the Council's Founders Circle has added two local governments, one federal department, three suppliers and a sustainability procurement tool provider. The Council now has six founders from the Fortune 500 list. As we've mentioned previously, the Steering Committee's goal is to launch the Council with a "balanced and representative group of stakeholders." We appreciate our newest members support and commitment to the mission and vision of the Council:
The Steering Committee and current Founders Circle members are helping SPLC staff identify additional founding member candidates in the areas of social and environmental advocacy (NGOs), food and agriculture, buildings and construction, healthcare, hospitality, banking and ERP. If you believe that your organization would be a good fit, please let us know.
