Jason Pearson, Executive Director

On January 1, 2014, the Steering Committee of the SPLC will hand full control of the organization to a new founding Board of Directors, formally completing the transition from our origins in The Keystone Center's Green Products Roundtable (GPR). We have also hired Chrissy Macken, whom you may know from her work at USGBC on LEED v4, to kick off major program activities in 2014.

These are important milestones, and I invite you to take this opportunity to engage in shaping the future of the Council as it moves forward as a fully independent organization. If you have not yet signed up as a Member, please take advantage of the significant discounts offered through December 18. If you are already a Member, please be sure to cast your vote in the Board election and/or apply for an appointed seat on the Board, also by December 18.

To all of you who are already engaged, thank you, and a particular welcome to our newest members Finally, I am pleased to announce a new partnership with the Sustainable Strategies Conference at Sustainatopia, which we will be co-sponsoring and supporting with content guidance.

We look forward to working with you all in the coming year to advance leadership in sustainable purchasing. Meantime, very best wishes for the holidays!

Introducing Christina Macken,
SPLC's new Program Director

Photo of Christina MackenChristina (Chrissy) Macken comes to us from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) where she served as Program Manager for LEED v4.

LEED v4, which launched this past November, includes many new concepts such as life cycle assessment, eco-labels, multi-attribute assessment, and social and economic sourcing considerations. Chrissy will bring her knowledge of each of these concepts as well as significant expertise in leading consensus-based development processes along strict, rigorous, and transparent standards, all of which are highly relevant to the work of SPLC.

Additionally, Chrissy has contributed significantly as the United States’ representative on a fifteen-member International Advisory Panel in a joint venture between the World Green Building Council and the Green Building Council of South Africa, tasked with creating socio-economic indicators for the developing world. We know that Chrissy will bring the same passion, knowledge, experience, and diplomacy--for which she is so well-respected in her work at USGBC--to her work with the SPLC.

As Program Director, Chrissy will lead and manage the core program activities of the Council, including both short-term projects such as the Principles and Landscape Scan and longer-term efforts including the proposed rating system. We know that you will enjoy getting to know Chrissy in the coming months, and we encourage you to reach out to her directly to introduce yourselves and welcome her to her new role. She will fully transition to SPLC in January, but you may be hearing from her sooner as she starts to bring the Principles TAG together.

Chrissy can be reached at christina@purchasingcouncil.org
