Children and Youth Ministry Update
from The Rev. Cara Gilger
Dear Park Families,
Last Sunday we had fun thinking about why God talks about being a rock in our lives, inspired by the passage in Isaiah from worship. We talked about God as our firm foundation as we build lives of kindness, compassion and justice.
This upcoming week we will be exploring the question “Who is my neighbor?” and reading the story of The Good Samaritan in Luke 10. We will be learning about God’s desire for us to honor one another’s diversity while building inclusive communities of care and thriving.
For our last week of the July Summer Photo Challenge to Inspire, we are challenging the kids to send a photo of a person who Inspires them--it can be a drawing or a picture or painting. You can email your photos to email@example.com to share. I will be sending a little surprise in the mail to each kid that participates to keep things fun!
As we continue to think about how best to be a community and share in ministry together virtually, we will be developing Kids Worship Boxes that will be sent to each family at The Park. These Kids Worship Boxes will be filled with materials we will use during the Sunday School hour to help our lessons come alive. So that we can know how many supplies to purchase, please let me know if you would like to receive a box by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org to opt in.
Pandemic of Love is a mutual aid community of care that was started in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. It humbly began on March 14th, 2020 by one person and was intended to help her own local community. But, like an epidemic, the act of love and kindness spread quickly and is now a beautiful movement helping those in need throughout the world.
What is a mutual aid community? It connects people in need with patrons who can help with that need. This is a tangible way for people to give to each other, quickly, discretely and directly.
What’s the catch? There is none. Kind people are introduced to kind people which results in an act of kindness and human connection.
