Hi there <<First Name>>

THE HAMPTON DOWNS 101 IS NOW JUST A WEEK AWAY!
Wow! I don’t know about you but we’re all getting mighty excited. It's going to be a massive weekend of entertainment on and off the track. If you still thinking about buying tickets, don't think any longer as all those who purchase their tickets before the event go in the draw to win a hot lap in the $4.3m Aston Martin Vulcan and if you haven't heard - Craig Lowndes will be driving it! What an amazing experience that could be. We will draw one lucky winner each day. The feature race is of course the first ever Hampton Downs 101 with the cars and drivers of the Australian GT Championship. In support are Central Muscle Cars, GTRNZ and the pocket rockets that are the Aussie Racing Cars

This year, Tony Quinn is teaming up with New Zealand motor racing legend Greg Murphy in his Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3, for the Highlands 101 while Kiwi drift superstar ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett will make his circuit racing debut.

As well as racing in the 101, ‘Mad Mike’ will also put on a drift exhibition. Off the track there’s a family zone with lots of fun activities for the kids and lots of top notch food and drink stalls. Under 16s get in free and parking is free also!

SUPERSTAR CHAFFEUR

Craig Lowndes, Australia’s most popular racing driver will turn high-speed chauffeur in Tony Quinn’s $4.3 million Aston Martin Vulcan at the Hampton Downs 101 next weekend (October 28-30). Lowndes adds to an already stellar lineup for the festival of motorsport at the North Waikato track headlined by the cars and drivers of the Australian GT Championship.

It’s the first major event at the refurbished Hampton Downs track, following a $30m investment by new owner Tony Quinn. Quinn has hosted the Highlands 101 at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell since 2013. ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER

To finish this month, here’s a heartwarming story about why it’s nice to be nice. It happened to Tony Quinn so it’s probably best to let him tell you what happened in his own inimitable style...

“I was on a Jetstar flight from the Gold Coast to Queenstown recently. I flew with Jetstar because it was the only flight available. It was only a three hour flight but Jetstar are horrible. It cost me $160 for my bags so I was already grumpy before I got on the plane. Then they came around with the food cart and I asked for a bottle of water and some cheese and crackers. I gave the girl a $10 note but she said, ‘Sorry, we only accept credit cards.’ I didn't have my credit card on me so I said, ‘Forget it.’

Next thing, this couple from Aussie said, “We’ll pay for it. Don't worry about it.” I was gobsmacked. It was such a nice thing to do. We got talking and they told me they were bringing the kids over to Queenstown. I asked them if they’d ever been to Highlands. They hadn't but they were planning on checking it out so I told them I knew some people at Highlands and I’d look after them. I emailed Josie and asked her to organise some activities for them.

Next thing I was flicking through this Australian car magazine and there was a big spread about me and the Aston Martin Vulcan. The wife couldn't help but notice it and they were stunned when they found out I owned Highlands. I told them a bit about the place and how it came about and the husband, a guy called Shaun, says to me as we were getting off the plane, ‘you know something, you should write a book.’

‘Funny you should say that,’ I said to him and we shook hands and said our goodbyes. I fly a lot and things like that don’t happen very often but it’s nice to know there are still some good sorts out there.”

Shaun and his wife and family recently emailed our team at Highlands to tell their side of of the story:

“The chance to stop and have time spent at Highlands was an amazing and memorable way for us to finish our holiday in New Zealand. We were all buzzing from the visit for days after so again thank you. I'd appreciate if you could also say hello and pass on our thanks to Tony, it was a pleasure meeting him on that amazing Jetstar flight and I have since thoroughly enjoyed reading his book Zero to 60. It's a great read and an incredible story. Thank you and all the very best from a very happy and grateful family from Down Under.”

In August Tony Quinn launched his book, Zero to 60 with a nationwide tour and it was a blast from start to finish. It all started with the official launch at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell and from there Tony travelled to Cromwell, Invercargill, Gore, Dunedin, Timaru, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. It was an incredibly humbling experience to see how many people turned out to listen to Tony and there was never a dull moment.

Tony was in Christchurch when he heard the news that Zero to 60 was the number one selling non-fiction book on the weekly bestsellers list. In fact the only book that sold more copies that week was the new Harry Potter book by JK Rowling.

Two months later and the book is still in the top ten. There are still copies available from Paper Plus stores nationwide or from reception here at Hampton Downs and it would make a great Christmas gift.
