Farmers, advisers and researchers contribute to the organic research agenda
NEWS. The most innovative European farmers were invited to exchange their experiences with organic food and ingredient production at the conference: "Organic production, Research and Innovation: Setting priorities for the future", organised by the European Commission.
OK-Net Arable facilitates co-creation of techniques in organic farming
NEWS. The complexity of organic farming requires that farmers have a very high level of knowledge and skills, but the knowledge-sharing about farming techniques is limited. The new project aims to boost knowledge exchange between organic farmers, advisers and researchers.
New handbook in health and welfare in organic pig production
NEWS. It is possible to improve the health and welfare in organic pig production and at the same time minimize the environmental impact without any significant additional costs. A newly published handbook shows the farmers how.
Organic Eprints presented as best practice of open repositories
NEWS. Allan Leck Jensen represented ICROFS at the 10th International Conference on Open Repositories in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The participants at the conference showed great interest in ICROFS' subject specific repository 'Organic Eprints'.
Legume-based catch crops can improve N-supply without higher N2O emission
SCIENCE. Legume-based catch crops can replace a part of the animal manure used in organic rotations without elevating the N2O emissions substantially according to the research projects HighCrop and Legume Futures.
Control of parasite infections reduces mortality and improves animal welfare
SCIENCE. The retail market share for organic eggs in Denmark is relative high. Unfortunately, there are a number of welfare issues in the organic egg production compared to other production systems - but new studies show that control of helminth infection can reduce mortality and improve the welfare of hens.
News from CORE Organic
MISCELLANEOUS. A newsletter with information about the 11 newly initiated CORE Organic Plus Projects was published at the end of May. In addition, the newsletter contains articles from the newly ended CORE II Projects ProPIG, Tilman.org and the ongoing project Improve-P. World Board Meeting in ISOFAR
MISCELLANEOUS. ICROFS participated at the 4th ISOFAR World Board meeting, 25th-26th June 2015 in Germany. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss the ISOFAR Organic 3.0 Scientific Symposium in Korea on Sept. 20th -22nd, 2015 in conjunction with the ISOFAR 2015 Goesan International Organic Expo and the scientific track for the Organic World Congress 2017 in India.
Questionnaire gathers informations on the use of organic research
MISCELLANEOUS. Scientists, working on organic subject areas, will be able to help the project Organic-AgriWare to increase the knowledge of the online archive 'Organic Eprints' by filling in a questionnaire.
Organic Innovation Days - Call for Innovation in the Organic Sector
MISCELLANEOUS. On 1 and 2 December, TP Organics will organise the Organic Innovations Days. One of the main aims of the event is to demonstrate the innovation potential of the organic food and farming sector.
