It's April.   I find myself thinking about spring cleaning, starting a vegetable garden, planning our summer vacation.   It's such a great time, everything feels so fresh and new.  I have to admit, spring cleaning will take a back seat to time spent outdoors running, walking Pepper, walking Pepper, walking Pepper.

I think of building my health coaching business as being like planting a garden.  I have seeds that I have planted and am watering. I'm excited to see what grows and what it becomes.   It's a time that's full of promise and energy.

It seemed, therefore, like a good time to focus on energy in this month's newsletter.

Avoid Toxins!

It's spring cleaning time!
Do you ever think about indoor air pollution?  Maybe not - but it turns out to be a source of significant toxins in our environment.

Our houses need cleaning anyway, so it seems like spring is a great time for a few tips that can help reduce indoor air pollution in your home.

The toxins in our air cause stresses on our body that negatively impact our energy and place stresses on our systems impacts your energy.   Here are some easy steps to take to reduce indoor air pollution:
  • Open your windows and let the fresh air in
  • Reduce or eliminate wearing shoes in the house
  •  Vacuum and dust frequently (this is the one I find the hardest to comply with)
  • Get outside (reduce your exposure by breathing some fresh air)
  • Eliminate artificial scents, they are full of toxic chemicals
  • Clean non toxically using water, vinegar, baking soda, olive oil, and lemon juice (or buy non toxic products like Ava Anderson Non Toxic).  Explore ways to clean naturally

Eat Well! Increase your Energy

Do you feel tired frequently?

Lately, I have been part of a lot of conversations about energy.   I have offered my Eating For Energy workshop three times this month and each time there have been fascinating and very different conversations.   Many of us struggle with energy issues -- some folks have too much, some of us feel that we don't have enough.   It's always useful to get a medical evaluation to find out if something is going on, in addition, I thought some quick tips for energy might be useful.

For example, if you sniff a lemon it can give you an energy boost, and improve your mood at the same time.   Drinking water can also help to boost your energy.   You can combine the two by adding a slice of fresh lemon to your water.   Take a deep inhale of the lemon scent before dropping it into the water.

By the way, just to be clear, I am talking about the scent of an actual lemon, or, perhaps, a pure essential oil.  I am not talking about an artificially created scent or fragrance!

Be Happy!

Having enough energy is not all about food.  It's also about how you feel.   Do you ever notice that when you are happy you have more energy and sometimes tired makes it hard to be happy?   Feeling tired can keep you from doing things you enjoy and spending time with people you care about.  Here are some quick tips that can help with your energy, and might also help you to feel a little happier.
  • Get enough sleep -  seven or eight hours every night
  • Breathe
  • Go outside
  • Listen to music
  • Stand up and stretch
  • Be with happy people
  • Find balance

A little about me and why I am doing this.

I am passionate about working with people to help them achieve their goals through making healthier nutrition and wellness choices.   My particular interest is in working with people who are seeking to make health and wellness choices to help to prevent cancer or its recurrence.   I believe that through healthy food choices, avoiding toxins, and taking steps to reduce stress and be happier, it is easier to achieve life goals and to stay healthier.   Because of my passion, I am a certified holistic health coach, a distributor of Ava Anderson Non Toxic Products, and a one-on-one provider for Heart Math.
