COVID Fast Facts

27 August 2021
CONTENT
Everyone will be pleased to see the end of the working week.  Auckland General Practicesswabbed over 10,000 people yesterday and combined with the Community Testing Centres, it totalled 17,889 swabs, which is 1,000 less than the day before.  Positive COVID-19 cases increased by 78 in the last 24 hours, and as you will be aware, the PMannounced today that Auckland and Northland have at least two more weeks of Level four lockdown.

Restricted Swabbing Sites
We have had reports that a number of these sites are not asking essential workers for their introductory letter from employers or the PHO to permit a swab to be taken.  We recommend that staff (and this includes, all Practice staff) who are close contacts and have been instructed to go to a Restricted Swabbing Site take a copy of the letter with them.  All swabs from these sites are considered a priority by the laboratory.  Site Locations can be found here

Medinz notifications over the weekend
Medinz notifications will resume on Monday, unless there anything critical in nature.

Surveillance Testing
A number of GPs have requested guidance regarding COVID-19 surveillance for practice staff.  Formal advice will be forthcoming from the NRHCC Clinical Technical Advisory Group on this matter.

Professor Dee Mangin – Webinar and Power Point Slides
This week Professor Dee Mangin presented a webinar “Not if but when: Primary Care and COVID-19” where she discussed the management of COVID-19 patients in their homes by Primary Care teams.
The webinar will be released to Auckland Regional Healthpathways in the next few weeks.  In the meantime, her slides have been released for your information.

A number of GPs and managers have enquired about purchasing pulse oximeters – our advice is to wait until there is further direction regarding product validation and funding.

A timely reminder to check your donning and doffing techniques with your peers.
