Celebrating 100 Communities Served in Trojes

In February, we completed the implementation of clean water, hygiene and sanitation solutions with our 100th community in Trojes, Honduras. We began our work in the Trojes region back in 2009. Since that time, we have reached 4,385 homes and 58 schools, serving over 22,000 individuals with safe water and sanitation solutions.
"We are excited to have completed WASH solutions for our 100th community! It is an honor to partner with the families here who deeply appreciate the programs we are providing," states María Inestroza, Honduras Country Director. "With more than 300 Trojes communities, our team is committed to this region.”

Cité Soleil Project Demonstrates Measurable Impact

Last year we reached 1,000 families in Cité Soleil, Haiti, with essential hygiene education and clean water filters in their homes. A post-implementation monitoring study, conducted in January 2016, demonstrated measurable change. Among the 10% of homes randomly surveyed:
  • 99% regularly use the filter for water consumption;
  • 99% reported the filtered water has improved the family’s health;
  • 87% have experienced a decline in diarrhea among their children;
  • 100% of the families would recommend this program to others.

“My water situation was a catastrophe before my filter. My children and I used to get very sick with diarrhea, stomachaches, headaches, and cholera. I am so grateful and would like everyone in my city to have one!”  - Martha Louis, beneficiary (pictured right)
We will begin working with the next 1,000 families this year. More information coming soon. Learn more about this project by visiting our website.

Zika Prevention Through Education

Guest blogger Alice Urban shares how PWW is proactively facing Zika in Haiti and Honduras by providing critical prevention education.

Haiti Country Director, Mario Andre, states, "Our partner communities typically are rural and dispersed; they often are not informed of Zika or its symptoms. To a very large degree, the information that we are delivering to communities is new. Communities want to learn more and take actions to reduce their risk of infection." Read full story

Improved Health in Los Placeres

We recently visited the community of Los Placeres, in Trojes, Honduras, to check in with families on their safe water solutions. One family we spoke with, the Olivera family, had this to say:

“Now, we are not drinking water with bacteria. I am really thankful to PWW because the health of every member of our family has improved. Our kids don’t have diarrhea or stomach pains anymore!”
- Emilio Olivera, father and beneficiary
