Bazaar Spices | Stop and Smell Me (Issue 4)

Welcome!

Spring is officially here and we have some great news to share. We're official! Thanks to you, our customers, and your support Bazaar Spices has officially joined the Union Market merchant community and over the next few weeks we will be moving into our permanent location within the market, across from Cordial Wine. These first few months have been great. Meeting many new people and  learning from our customers about the many different types and uses of spices and herbs has been the most enjoyable part (long hours eh..not so much!).  As a result of listening to you our product offerings have expanded to one of the widest range of unique spices, herbs, rice, flour, beans and lentils in the District.  A big "thank you" again!  Take a read through the rest of our newsletter to see what's new and fresh in the world of Bazaar Spices.

Upcoming Event: Sri Lankan Home Cooking

On Thursday, April 11th at 6:30pm at Bazaar Spices in Union Market, we welcome author and gastronaut Skiz Fernando as he discusses the practical and health benefits of using spices in your cooking as well as demystifying some of these “exotic” ingredients often found in Sri Lankan cuisine.  For your sampling pleasure, he will also offer a demonstration and tasting of his famous chicken curry from his recent cookbook, Rice & Curry: Sri Lankan Home Cooking (Hippocrene Books, 2011),  a New York Times notable cookbook, which put Sri Lankan food on the map. Skiz also creates his Original Sri Lankan Roasted Curry powder, a unique blend of 13 different ingredients, which forms the basis of most Sri Lankan curries. In the Capital: Union Market's Bazaar Spices Brings Much Needed Flavor to D.C.'s Food Scene

We wanted to share with you this fun and entertaining article by Carl Pierre of In the Capital about our shop, Bazaar Spices.

"Speaking as somebody who rarely shops for food ingredients that are out of the ordinary, I've always lived under the assumption that finding exotic spices for complex dishes was too lofty of a goal for a simple D.C. guy like myself. Outside of a dash of paprika (or cumin if I'm feeling really crazy), I rarely stray outside of the typical bachelor fare of salt, pepper, and garlic. Thankfully for my pallad, I recently  had a bit of an inner 'food awakening' when I visited Union Market's most recent injection of flavor to its already burgeoning open food market, Bazaar Spices."
