Dear <<First Name>>,

Women’s  Day started out as a day to acknowledge suffrage (or in fact ask for it), sisterhood and stoicism so it bothers me a bit that it seems to have become another sort of “Valentines day” all about men bearing gifts.  Nothing wrong of course with gifts whoever bears them but we seem to have lost the thread here.  So in the original spirit of Womens Day we are offering “all women” tables a glass of Kir/Prosecco on the house Friday 7th through Sunday 9th. Cheers!

Despite the very dull grey English weather this week I’ve been trying to inject a bit of culinary sunshine into things and I managed to write up a few recipes for you that are easy peasy and really delicious too. We have an updated Wine List that I have been diligently testing with Richard – just need the sun on the terasa so we can do justice to the page of rosés! Peruse here

Try this at home
Vegan fruitcake with no sugar: I know it sounds really “knit your own sandalish” but it’s a great cake and spicy, moist and flavouful yet not cloyingly sticky.  As the title sounds so dire I renamed it “lemon grass, ginger, date and barberry fruitcake”. A small slice in the morning for breakfast or in the afternoon with a cup of (English) tea has been very nice indeed. See here for the recipe.
You may actually not want to try this at home as it creates a very pungent strong fresh garlic pesto with an outrageous bright green colour. If you don’t want anybody to talk to you for a week just eat a jar! Its amazing on gnocchi and pasta but when I tried it with broccoli it was too much – a kind of sulphur/chlorophyll collision so “handle with care”. See here for the details.

We have the Corcova Syrah on the menu and I enjoy it regularly but having a glass of the Penfolds bin 128 this week was sublime with a few pieces of aged goats cheese….to find out more about Syrah and food check out this helpful snippet from wine folly: http://winefolly.com/tutorial/syrah-food-pairing/

Whats Cooking?
Tasting Menu Friday 7th-Sunday 9th
As well as our a la carte menu we always have a weekly menu and for these special days we have paired some wines too – see the tasting menu here. Choose what you want, enjoy a paired glass or indulge in all five courses with wines for 140 Ron.  And all women tables enjoy a Kir/ Prosecco on us!
Weekend Brunch Sat& Sun   To celebrate Pancake Day this weekend we are serving Indian “Dhosa” on the weekend brunch menu.  Lots of fresh home made bread, the mamaliga muffins and fresh brioche and our Thai Fish Cakes Benedict – all your favourite things in one dish.
Australian Wine Tasting  7.30pm, Thursday, March 13th
Richard having a down under moment and presenting some great Oz wines. 75 Ron includes little nibbly things too. We might be a bit passion fruit pavloverish as well next week as we will have some Oz grub (not grubs) on the weekly menu.
