PEACE CORPS BOOTH @ EARTH DAY FESTIVAL

SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 2019
and SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2019

11:00am-6:00pm
Alameda Park, Santa Barbara

SBPCA will be sharing a booth with the United Nations Association at Earth Day — and we hope you’ll come by to see us! We'll be at booth #361, near the Public Square, near the corner of Santa Barbara Street and Cota Street.

We still have a few hour-long shifts available between 11am - 6pm on Saturday and Sunday for RPCVs to volunteer to staff our booth. Come share your Peace Corps experience, answer questions, and let people know about our Local Peace Corps Association!

Let us know if you're interested in volunteering by emailing us at rsvp@sbpca.org
— Or just stop by to say hello!

This is an information session hosted by the Peace Corps’ Regional Recruiter. We're just helping to get the word out since we are, of course, big fans of the Peace Corps!

Attendees will learn about Volunteer experiences, may ask questions about Peace Corps service, and gain tips on the application process.

Questions? Contact Regional Recruiter Sakeena Ali at (805) 202-6268 or sali@peacecorps.gov.

PEACE CORPS SEND-OFF & SPEAKERS PANEL
THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2019
5:30-8:00pm

Direct Relief
6100 Wallace Becknell Rd, Goleta

Casual light dinner & refreshments included*

Come help us celebrate the upcoming departure of local soon-to-be Peace Corps Volunteers, while also learning about what it’s like to be a Peace Corps Volunteer — and if you’re interested, how to apply to become one!

You’ll hear from a panel of individuals who served in the Peace Corps about topics such as their living situations, daily lives, work projects, dealing with cultural differences, and more.

Other local Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will be at the event, as well as our Peace Corps Regional Recruiter.

There will be time for Q&A following the panel discussion. The event will end with a casual light dinner & refreshments, giving attendees time to chat with each other, the panelists, other Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, and the Peace Corps Regional Recruiter.

ACTION ALERT:
SENATE PEACE CORPS FUNDING LETTER CIRCULATING

Just three weeks ago, the House of Representatives issued a "Dear Colleague letter" with a record-breaking 181 lawmakers calling for increased Peace Corps funding. — Now, your Senators have the chance to take similar action!

Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) are circulating this letter to Senate colleagues, encouraging robust funding for the Peace Corps in Fiscal Year 2020, which begins October 1st.

It's time to boost the budget and reject recently proposed cuts! Take action to help the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) reach its goal of having 40 Senators sign the letter. (As of April 18th, 25 had signed it. Click here to see which Senators have signed thus far.)

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Follow this link to write to your Senators, asking them to sign the letter before the April 23rd deadline. We encourage you to personalize your message in the body of the letter. — If your Senator(s) signed the letter, contact them to say thank you!

NEXT STEP TRAVEL

Did you know that the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) has a travel program? It does! Next Step Travel provides itineraries that combine unparalleled local access, cultural immersion, and non-extreme adventure, all with the unique Peace Corps perspective. The program's purpose is to show you the world how a Peace Corps Volunteer would travel: getting off the beaten path and exploring all there is to offer.

To the extent possible, all of their trips try to engage with the Peace Corps community in-country — witnessing Volunteers in action. If Peace Corps is not present in the country, they do their best to engage with other NGOs and community-based organizations that might be of interest to our community. (And they point out that RPCVs are some of the most adventurous, free-spirited, and fun travelers you're likely to find!)
