Supergen Bioenergy Hub at the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition

Job opportunity: Research Associate – Biomethane Fuel Purification

The successful candidate will join a Supergen Bioenergy Hub-funded sub-project to develop and evaluate an innovative algae-based process to produce fuel-grade biomethane and sequester remaining biomass carbon into algal co-product and biochar. The application deadline is 19 June. Find out more.

Call for submissions for TRA2020 – deadline extended to 31 May

Transport Research Arena (TRA) is the foremost European transport event that covers all transport modes and all aspects of mobility. The next edition of this biennial event will be held in Helsinki, 27-30 April 2020. Under the conference theme ‘Rethinking transport – towards clean and inclusive mobility’, TRA2020 will focus on rethinking how research, development, and innovations can deliver what users and the planet are calling for.
 
The deadline for both journal and conference track papers has been extended until 31 May. The scientific and technical sessions will include research papers, the best of which will be published in peer-reviewed journals. All accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings. You are welcome to submit a short conference paper or a full-length journal paper. Find out more.

Invitation from European Commission to shape new research and innovation missions

The European Commission is inviting top experts to help shape the direction of research and innovation within ‘Mission Boards’ in the following areas:

  • Adaptation to climate change including societal transformation
  • Cancer
  • Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters
  • Climate-neutral and smart cities
  • Soil health and food

The application deadline is 11 June. Find out more.

The aim of this event from the European Commission is to bring stakeholders together to shape future research and innovation policy. Find out more.

Funding opportunities

Funding available from Supergen Bioenergy Hub

Yesterday, we launched our call for flexible funding up to £100,000 to investigate the potential for co-production of bioenergy and bioproducts from UK resources to deliver sustainable environmental benefits. The deadline to apply is 10 July.

We also have rapid response funding to support the UK’s bioenergy research community in responding to industrial and policy challenges that arise during the lifetime of the Hub and in developing active international research collaborations. Projects should be completed by May 2022.

End Use Energy Demand Technology Call 2 – deadline: 1 October

The UK Research and Innovation Energy Programme, via EPSRC and ESRC, have funded the Centre for Research in Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS) as part of the second phase of strategy to support the broad community of researchers and innovators in energy demand in the UK. EPSRC is looking to fund additional research proposals concerning technologies to enable end use energy demand. Find out more.

Funding available from US government

The US government has recently announced three funding opportunities in the following areas:

While institutes outside the US are not eligible to serve as lead applicants on proposals, they can partner with an eligible institution and be a sub-awardee on the project. Projects submitted to the programme within the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative must clearly demonstrate benefits to the sustainability of US agriculture.
