MEMBER CARE COURSE
In October I (Roger) attended a member care course. The course was held in Restenas, Sweden.
Studies show that missionary life is very stressful and that more missionaries suffer from burnout and post traumatic stress than they did a generation ago. Today, with global politics becoming so volatile, missionaries are facing persecution, violence and kidnapping. Just this year a YWAM family was murdered. Many colleagues, friends and relatives had to receive counseling from this tragedy. Many missionaries need onsite counselors to help them walk through difficult times in their lives and ministries. The goal of member care is to help people fulfill the calling God has placed on their hearts, and not leave their ministry field prematurely.
This was a three week course that focused on the many challenges that missionaries face from the time they first arrive on the field through all the many challenges they face, until retirement.
Each day was a full day of learning! Now, I will be part of network of member care people in Central Europe. This means I may travel to different locations to help people in need or be available by Skype to talk with people in their region.
