At our annual grassroots Program Planning meeting League members will discuss and decide what our priorities will be for 2020-2021. All members are encouraged to attend. The meeting includes a light lunch from 12:00 to 1:00.

Erik Jensen, Director of the Rule of Law Program at Stanford University, has worked in over 40 developing countries. He will provide an overview of the perils and promise of working in ungoverned and misgoverned countries. He will draw from his experiences in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iraq, and other countries to describe lessons learned.

He has taught and practiced in the field of law and development for 30 years and has carried out fieldwork in 35 developing countries. He has led or advised research teams on governance and the rule of law at the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank.

Candidate Forum on Early Childhood Education 
This panel discussion will focus on Early Childhood Education (ECE). Panel members are candidates Josh Becker, Michael Brownrigg, Sally Lieber, Shelly Masur, and Annie Oliva for State Senate District 13, the seat currently held by Jerry Hill.

During this moderated conversation, we hope to learn more about their platforms and plans for elevating early learning issues and leading our state to greater equity in education, especially for young children and preschool teachers.

The Los Altos Affordable Housing Alliance event is to give folks who are considering adding an ADU (and those who may be interested in learning about them) practical information on how to get it done. The format will be a brief panel followed by a “carousel” during which participants can speak with the experts on their particular interests/concerns.

Forms available to gather signatures
for Schools and Communities First Initiative

If you want forms to collect signatures for the Schools and Communities First ballot initiative, contact Lisa McLain to make arrangements to pick them up.

Schools and Communities First is a ballot initiative to close the current corporate property tax loophole and restore more than $12 billion per year for K-12 schools, community colleges, counties, cities, and special districts.  LWV California is a partner in the coalition sponsoring this initiative to amend Proposition 13 while continuing to guarantee protections for homeowners, residential renters, agricultural land, and small businesses. The Initiative will appear on the November 2020 ballot. To learn more: .
