What's New at TWRC

Public Consultation

On May 18th The Women’s Resource Centre held a Public Consultation to learn more about the needs in our community and to hear ideas about how we can help. We had a great response; 34 individuals completed our online survey, and 18 community women came out to the Riverbank Discovery Centre to participate in the discussion.

Some of the biggest concerns we heard were:
  • Lack of safe, quality, affordable housing and overnight shelter is a major problem for many families in our community
  • Quality childcare continues to be difficult to find
  • Access to transportation for moms and children is often difficult
  • A large number of women and families struggle to find affordable and appropriate legal supports
  • Greater support for newcomer families is still needed
  • There is demand for further supports for parents, particularly lone parents
  • Financial support and assistance for adults, specifically advocacy and skill building, is needed
  • Teen girls need more opportunities to develop independence and self esteem
  • Greater coordination between service providers would result in better outcomes for all
We would like to thank everyone that took the time to participate in the consultation process. Your thoughtfulness, creativity, and enthusiasm to make Westman a better place for all families has inspired and energized us! We would also like to thank Dundee Designs and Komfort Kitchen for sponsoring this process.

Get Involved

Volunteers play a very important role at The Women’s Resource Centre. From providing leadership on our Board of Directors, to helping keep our Centre clean, to leading workshops for our clients, volunteers are critical to our success. We strive to create fulfilling and meaningful opportunities that allow our volunteers to share their passions, use their talents and build their skills.

“Volunteering at TWRC has given me a chance to give back to something that was there for me, at a time in my life when I needed help.  It helps me to be a better person, a person that loves to help others, to learn, and have fun at the same time; and it gives me a certain strength that comes from belonging to something that I know is making a difference in so many lives.” ~ Sheila, Volunteer
