"In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.
– Marianne Williamson

August is not the beginning of the calendar year, but it is the beginning of the school year cycle for many students, families, and educators. This year, with the continued uncertainties around COVID, many of our residents  continue to grapple with organizational policies around how to manage our professional environments and even how to manage our daily lives and the realities of public health and quarantining.

Add to that the challenges of weather and power outages, like the one we experienced last week which affected several Warson Woods homes in both small or large ways, and it's fair to say that we are all ready for the nice weather and community time that Fall will bring.

In this newsletter, we talk about our upcoming Food Truck picnic, how to rent the pavilion, and our need for a community arborist to help us maintain our status as a Tree City. We also have a call out for events volunteers and for a list of all residents who are Veterans so we can include you in the November newsletter for Veterans Day. Thanks for reading!

Thanks to Missouri American Water for our much needed fire hydrant makeovers!
Food Truck This Tuesday!
Please join us at Royal Oak Park on Tuesday, August 17 from 5-7pm for a food truck picnic at the park featuring Waynos International Food Truck (menu below)!

Have someone else make dinner while your kids play at the park and you enjoy the company of your neighbors. We will rotate each month; this month's cuisine brought to you by Waynos.

If you are concerned about the potential for a line at the food truck, feel free to bring a picnic and just come down and join in the fun. We hope to make this a monthly event from March-October in the hours before city council meetings on every second Tuesday of the month.
Requesting a List of Resident Veterans
With Veterans Day coming in a couple of months, we wanted to begin to solicit names of Warson Woods residents who are Veterans or currently serving in the military so that we can honor you in our November newsletter. If you or someone you know is a veteran of the military, please submit their names here.
Call for an Arborist
In order to maintain Warson Woods' status as an official Tree City, we need an arborist who would be willing to volunteer to keep an eye on the trees in our city parks and confer with Facilities staff as tree work is needed. We are grateful to our former long-time arborist Gordon Gosh who recently moved out of Warson Woods - we wish you the best Gordon!
Email if you are interested in serving.
Warson Woods Business Spotlight -
There She Goes Boutique
Sheila Stewart,15-year resident of Warson Woods, outside her new clothing and accessories boutique located next to Dierbergs Market.
How did you start your business?
I actually started four years ago out of my basement! It was always something I'd wanted to do but I had no experience, so the first year I learned a lot. I have friends who own a boutique in Kirkwood and I learned so much from them. I grew to the point I was ready to open a store and the spot next to Dierbergs became available and it was the perfect location!

What do you sell in your store?
Mostly apparel, but we also have lots of accessories, hand bags, jewelry, jeans, shoes and great gift items like glasses and barware, cosmetic bags, etc. I like to keep my inventory low so you don't run into a lot of people wearing the same outfit! We get new inventory in almost every day and Wednesdays I do a "Wednesday Night Live" on Instagram where I showcase all of our new arrivals.

What, or who, is your fashion inspiration?
I don't really have one particular designer who inspires me, but I am a big fan of fashionable, yet cool and casual, clothing. Most of my customers are Moms so I gravitate towards clothing that is easy to wear. We have lots of casual pieces for every day but we also carry a great variety of blouses and dresses for work and cute outfits for a date night. I like to say the things I carry in my store are current, not ultra trendy. I am also a fan of affordability - nothing in my store is over $100!

To tune in to the Wednesday Night Live broadcasts, follow There She Goes on Instagram; you can also see new apparel and accessories on their Facebook page here
