A Focus on Community
This has been a difficult year for so many of us individually and for all of us as a community as we have weathered the pandemic for now almost 16 months. As we turn our focus to summer, we hope our community will double down our efforts to strengthen the Warson Woods community and take care of our amenities each and every day as residents.

Our city is strong because of the small actions our residents take to welcome new families and take care of our surroundings through picking up trash if you see it on your walk, organizing a small event with neighbors, or getting to know a neighborhood pet on a walk around the block.

Many of our neighbors spend time at the community pool or our lovely parks and we encourage you to introduce yourself to someone new and work every day to build the welcoming spirit that we all know and love. We are looking forward to our second monthly food truck event at Royal Oak Park as another way to join together and meet one another.
“It is not more bigness that should be our goal. We must attempt, rather, to bring people back to the warmth of community, to the worth of individual effort and responsibility, and of individuals working together as a community, to better their lives and their children’s future.”

– Robert F. Kennedy
Food Truck This Tuesday!
Please join us at Royal Oak Park on Tuesday, June 15 from 5-7pm for food truck picnic at the park! Have someone else make dinner while your kids play at the park and you enjoy the company of your neighbors. We will rotate each month; this month's cuisine brought to you by Sedara and Iced Treats by Sia. You can preview their menu and Sedara takes pre-orders here starting a few hours before the event. Officer Gene and his band will provide live music at this event, too, to ensure a fun time for all!

If you are concerned about the potential for a line at the food truck, feel free to bring a picnic and just come down and join in the fun. We hope to make this a monthly event from March-October or so in the hours before city council meetings.
Resident Spotlight - the Davidsons
Dick and Nancy, long time Warson Woods residents, with their children and grandchildren in front of their home on Brookhurst
What year did you move to Warson Woods?
I bought the house in 1978 and Nancy and I moved in after our wedding in 1979. It's a great story: One summer when I was 16 years old, I worked for my Dad who was a painting contractor. I was sent to a house in Warson Woods to sand and scrape and get it all ready for the older guys. It was the most beautiful house I'd ever seen and I just fell in love with it. I was sure I'd never be able to afford that house, but I always remembered it over the years and at one point I even talked with an architect to see if he could replicate it. Many years later, my Mother and sister were leaving Golde's department store, and when they left they went the back way down Warson Woods Drive and saw someone staking a "for sale" sign in front of a house on Brookhurst. She wanted me to settle down and marry my girlfriend, so she encouraged me to go take a look at it. I did, and it was that same house I'd been dreaming about all those years! By then I could afford it, and even though they were asking way too much I bought it the next day. It was in horrible shape at the time and a few months later I asked Nancy to marry me in the entryway because it was the only usable area in the house. To this day, every time I turn into my driveway I say to myself I can't believe I live here in this beautiful house.
What is the biggest difference between then and now?
Nothing. The neighborhood is almost exactly the same - just younger faces!
What is your favorite thing about Warson Woods?
It is the most terrific place you can raise a family. When our kids were young they would take off on their bikes or scooters and play with their friends and we wouldn't see them until much later in the day. We never worried because it's such a safe neighborhood. We loved the pool - whatever baby we had at the time we would play with in the baby pool and the older kids would swim in the big pool with their friends. Five of our six children live within ten minutes of here and two live in Warson Woods!
Do you keep in touch with any of your old neighbors?
Yes - all of them! We just had dinner with Jim and Mary Lee Sonderman (old neighbors) last week.
The playset work never ends!

Fourth of July Celebrations in Warson Woods
Fourth of July is always filled with fun and community in Warson Woods:
  • Corner of Forest View and Timberlane: Meet at the flagpole for a short patriotic ceremony (all veterans to be honored) and then a walking parade with decorated bikes, wagons, and strollers takes off heading north on Forest View at 10:30am with a fire truck leading to parade! Parade ends at Ray Dreher Park.
  • Pool Party after the Parades: The Warson Woods Pool hosts a popular Fourth of July party for members each year - check your email for more details.
Photo from the Archives: The Fourth of July parade in 1982 was fun and full of decorations. Here is a photo from that year of Dick Davidson and his son Billy (both still residents of Warson Woods) at the parade. Be sure to decorate your strollers and bikes for this year's events! Let this photo inspire you to run up to Dollar Tree and get some decorations!
Alderwoman Spotlight:
Lucy Pfyl

How long have you lived in Warson Woods?  We moved here in July of 2016 from Rock Hill.

Why did you run for Alderwoman? I love to be involved in things that are important to me and my family, in this case our fabulous city! My family and I love this community - we have a long family history here in Warson Woods and we are so happy to be here. With all that has happened in the past few months in our community I have faith that we can re-build and come out stronger and more united than we were.

Tell us about your family: My husband Dave and I are STL natives, though we met in Denver. We eventually came home where we married and had two great children - Frank and Denny.

Do you have any pets?  We rescued a Beagle named Sunny, we have 2 fish, and a Guinea Pig.

Do you like ice cream or frozen custard?  YES!!!

Where is the best pizza in St. Louis? is my favorite food hands down, it's my take only one food to an island kinda food lol.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love being with family and friends, boating, skiing and traveling!

Where would you buy a vacation house?  Someplace warm with a direct flight!

What was your first car?  My older brothers and I shared a Chevy Blazer.
