New Activity - Word Ladder

We’re excited to let you know about our new activity, Word Ladder.  This activity is a self-correcting synthetic phonics activity, which involves swapping sounds within words.  We’ve already had some fabulous feedback from our recent Facebook post about this, so we think you’re going to really like it.

Create different words by swapping out tiles of letters/sounds
Word Ladder reinforces phonic patterns which have been taught in the Course.  Of course, this also develops the phonological aspects, such as awareness of initial, medial and end sounds in words.  In fact, Word Ladder has a very strong emphasis on those aspects and actively teaches students to map sounds onto letters or letter patterns.
Word Ladder will appear on the structured literacy Course mid next week, so your students may have questions about the activity when they see it for the first time.

Check out our support guide with teaching tips and activity explanations!

Meet Anna

The other great development we wanted to let you know about is that we have a fabulous new Education Adviser and Business Development Manager, Anna Williams.

Anna has a fascinating background with experience as a principal and founder of international schools in places such as Mongolia and China.  She’s passionate about literacy and also been a senior educational adviser in a number of organisations working with learners who have become disengaged as a result of difficulties in school.

She will be helping both new and existing customers get the most out of StepsWeb and all the other resources we have to offer.  Feel free to ring her for any educational help or advice you need in your school.

Anna can be reached via email at anna@stepsweb.com, or by contacting us.
