My Wife was Raped on a Business Trip. Then We Found Out She was Pregnant

( I really don't like thinking about this time. Just saying the words are hard: My wife was raped. There's grief and anger - rage really, like I've never felt before toward anyone, wanting to find this man .... Above all, there was frustration. Jennifer had just been through something so horrible and scary and I couldn't make it better. I couldn't fix it for her.
We had just set Jennifer up with a therapist to help her work through some of the early signs of PTSD – nightmares and panic attacks, when we found out she was pregnant. From somewhere near Aruba where she was working on a cruise ship she calls me: “I'm pregnant.” People always seem surprised by my reaction, and I never understand it. I didn't think, “What do we do now?” I knew what was right already. She just told me the news. I thought, “Okay. This is what we're doing now.”
A baby is the beginning of something - not a “problem” to fix. The words “I'm pregnant” should never be followed by, “What should we do about it?” The thing is, it wasn't ever “Her rapist got her pregnant,” or “Because she was assaulted, now she's having a baby.” It was: My wife is pregnant. We're having a kid. A new baby. There's a blank canvas. This child on the way didn't make any decisions about his conception. How could anyone place blame on him?

New Adult Stem Cell Therapy Stops, Reverses Symptoms of MS

(CNA/EWTN News) A risky adult stem cell clinical trial in Canada has proven effective in stopping and even reversing the symptoms in patients with severe cases of multiple sclerosis, a progressive disease of the immune system that is often untreatable.
The stem cell therapy was performed on 24 adult patients who were expected to be confined to a wheelchair within 10 years. After the treatment, most patients saw no further progress in their symptoms, and were even able to regain functions that had been taken away by the disease, such as their vision, balance, or ability to walk, the Guardian reports.

Canadian Senate Passes Euthanasia Bill

( Canada’s Senate gave approval to the Liberal government’s Bill C-14 Friday, averting a standoff with the House of Commons over the controversial bill — which now only needs royal assent to become law. Senators voted 44 to 28 to accept the final version of Bill C-14, which outlines under what circumstances Canadians can be legally assisted to kill themselves, or be euthanized. An 11th-hour battle between House and Senate focussed on Bill C-14’s stipulation that to be eligible for assisted suicide or euthanasia, a person’s natural death must be “reasonably foreseeable.”
But tunnel vision on this particular phrase overlooks Bill C-14’s far more dangerous and fundamental flaws, says executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, Alex Schadenberg. “The biggest question is, can this bill as written right now actually protect somebody who is either depressed, having mental illness issues, or is incompetent,” he pointed out. “And the answer is no.”
