On the job – Personal stories

Jimmy: Apprentice Automotive Service Technician

Jimmy got involved in automotive service because he's always liked building and taking things apart.

"A few years ago, I went to university and decided to switched over to automotive services because it’s what I actually wanted to do!"

Jimmy went to college in Halifax. The apprenticeship program in Nova Scotia is four years long. Part of that time is spent on the job; the other in a classroom setting. "Currently I’m working towards the number of hours I need in order to go back to school to  complete my apprenticeship."

"Most of the people I know that went to college are still working in their trades". It’s more of a personal decision than anything; you just have to find what you like to do."
