On the job – Personal stories

Kelsey - Journeyperson, Tool and Die

Kelso says she was always interested in working on machines.

"I discovered (while) doing a tour of a school, that I would get that opportunity if I picked Tool & Die."

She says there’s a big advantage to getting into a skilled trade. "I was able to work while I was going to school. I gained three years of work experience while still learning."

She says government grants she received meant she didn't have to worry about paying back student loans down the road.

"I think skilled trades need to be promoted as a great career option at the youngest age possible. You need to show people that they can go into the skilled trades - there’s nothing holding them back."
