On the job – Personal stories

Avalon; Journeyperson, Automotive Service Technician

Avalon Mathias completed the Automotive Service Technician apprenticeship course at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont.

She says she’s always been fascinated with anything with an engine.

“I’ve been turning wrenches since I was a kid, and fixing my mom’s car whenever I could. A lot of it was self-taught.”

“I worked at a few good places throughout my apprenticeship and met some great techs along the way. They would take time out of their day to step aside to help me out with something or teach me. That was really encouraging.”
