Social Impact Initiative

Sustain Dane is excited to announce that we are one of eight social impact entrepreneur teams selected by StartingBlock to participate in their Social Impact Initiative cohort! As part of this program we are lucky to network with other impact focused organizations, receive free space at StartingBlock for six months as well as customized programming and support by StartingBlock and their project partners, Greenbush Strategy Partners, and American Family Institute for Corporate and Social Impact. We are eager to see what this exciting new chapter has in store for us!

Social Change Forum: Exploring the Imposter Complex

Join Project Kinect to learn and share about the Imposter Complex, or when an individual doubts their accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud."  At the event you will hear from inspiring speakers like Leadership Coach Tanya Geisler, and Social Entrepreneur Zoë Dean-Smith. You will also have the chance to participate in a variety of interesting workshops that aim to help you overcome the feeling that you are not qualified to do work you are doing, and give you the confidence to step into your power!

Warm up with 5 simple Wintertime Sustainability tips:

  1. Eat Seasonally. Yes, eating seasonally year-round is possible even in Wisconsin! Check out this guide to see what is available, and don't forget that the Dane County Farmers Market has their Late Winter Market every Saturday at the Madison Senior Center.
  2. To extend the life of your winter gear, remember that you should wash winter coatswater proof boots, and even wash rain gear at least once a season.
  3. You can reuse old natural fiber fabric scraps to make hand warmers by filling them with rice. Check out this cute tutorial. Pop them in your pockets before you head out the door for a cozy comfort in these freezing temperatures. Extra sustainability points if you use stale rice!
  4. My favorite tip for surviving the winter blues is to try and get out and enjoy the weather as much as possible! If you treat snow as a special event and skate, ski, or snow shoe in one of Dane County's beautiful parks it will make this chilly time fly by and come Summer you may even miss it!
  5. There are so many ways to save energy this season. Check out MGE's tips for homeowners and renters.
