Baking a Loaf with Pilar  •    Sunday 8th December    •    11am - 4pm
Flour, water, yeast and salt. The magic ingredients for a good loaf of nutritious bread. This session is for those of you who want to learn the very basics of bread baking or who need a little help with your confidence as bakers or some reassurance for what you’re already doing. We will be baking a wholewheat loaf (or spelt if you have intolerance). While we wait for the dough to rise we will experiment with different doughs, we’ll tell bread stories and you’ll have a chance to grind your own flour with our stone mill. By the end of the workshop you will receive your own handmade loaf, some other treats and basic recipes from the Hornbeam Bakers’ Collective to carry on your baking journey. Waltham Forest Cycling Campaign  •  Wednesday 11th  •  8 - 9.15pm
Join us for a discussion on cycling issues, opportunities, and upcoming events. Everyone is welcome and we appreciate all contributions. We usually go to a nearby pub after the meeting. Click here for more information about us.

Open Mic night  •  Friday 13th  •  7.30 - 11pm
Experience a compelling mix of local & talented performers, warmly supportive audience, healthy organic ales, ciders & wines, and mouthwatering snacks. Singers, musicians, poets, comedians and magicians are all welcome to grace our intimate stage. And this is the best venue for first time performers as we are the most friendly and encouraging venue this side of the river. Kids Kitchen   •   Friday 20th   •   10am - 12noon
We all cook a fresh healthy lunch together for our children (under 5s), while singing songs, playing and washing up, and there is also lovely café food (including cake!) available for us bigger kids too at lunchtime.  Booking essential, online here. OrganicLea market stall  • Saturday 6th, 13th, 20th   • 10am - 3pm
Located right outside the Hornbeam Centre on Saturdays, the market stall sells organic and ultra-local sustainably grown fruit and vegetables, plus homemade bread, jams and preserves. It’s a buzzing space, where buying fresh produce is an enjoyable activity and where information about food can be freely shared.  Healthy Start vouchers can be used to buy fruit and vegetables at the stalls or box scheme. We meet on the first Sunday of every month (except bank holidays) from 9:30am, leaving at 10am for task site. Finish approx. 4.30pm Practical and fun conservation activities. Tools, training, tea & biscuits provided. No experience required. Bring your own lunch. Wear suitable clothing & stout footwear. An informal opportunity for people with green/community interests to get together, chat about projects they’re involved in or find out about those of others. Under 5’s Nature Explorers   •   Wednesday 4th   •   10am - 1pm
Join us for FREE adventures and activities in Lloyd Park for under 5s and their parents/carers. We will start the day with a fun ramble around the park searching for items around our monthly theme. There will then be activities and story time until 1pm. Food warming facilities and hot drinks will be available during and after the activities. Waltham Forest Cycling Campaign Monthly Ride   •   Sunday 22nd   •   10 - 3pm
We meet every fourth Sunday of the month at 10am at Walthamstow Library for a 10:15am start. We have a few routes lined up and usually decide distance and destination on the day according to what people prefer. We ride leisurely suited to the wishes of participants. We usually stay within 30 miles and sometimes considerably shorter. We tend to be back by 3pm and always have a snack stop somewhere. Contact Robert Robert@wfcycling.org.uk

The Conservation Volunteers BAT   •    Tue, Wed, Thu each week   •   9am - 4.30pm
Our established Biodiversity Action Team (BAT) helps manage some of Waltham Forest’s most beautiful and vibrant sites for nature conservation.  Help improve your local green spaces through a wide range of activities including; woodland management, habitat creation, pond maintenance and some environmental construction.  With practical sessions every day there are plenty of opportunities to join in, meet new people, learn new skills and discover hidden green spaces while improving your health and stamina. Green Gym ticks all the boxes! The Conservation Volunteers Green Gym inspires you to improve both your health and the environment at the same time. Experienced leaders guide you through a range of practical projects. This event takes place at Lloyd Park, but from time to time will be at other parks in the borough. The Hornbeam runs an Eco-Volunteering project, which aims to grow the range of 'green' volunteer opportunities throughout Waltham Forest and beyond. Our mission is to become the best source of ethical, well supported, environmental volunteering placements in London.

  • Marketing and promotions. We are looking for a volunteer with experience of designing leaflets and posters, writing copy for articles or websites and using social media to raise profile. If that sounds like you we would be most interested to hear from you!
Forest Recycling Project
Forest Recycling Project (FRP) has a range of volunteering opportunities, enabling you to join a vibrant team, and be involved in a successful and ever-expanding community project (including FRP’s flagship paint re-use project), where you can learn new skills while benefiting local people and the wider environment.

Organiclea - help us feed Waltham Forest!
  • Veg Box Packers: Every week a team of volunteers helps us to pack local, organic veg bags for box scheme customers all over Waltham Forest.  Packing takes place on Wednesdays 10.30am-3pm.
  • Horticultural Assistant: Even in the midst winter there is always a range of seasonal gardening activities to do, both in the glasshouse and outside. Our horticultural volunteer days are:Wednesdays 11am-4pm, Fridays 11am-4pm and Tuesdays 1.30-4.30pm.
  • Stalls Volunteers: Help out on our sociable Saturday market stall outside the Hornbeam Cafe in Walthamstow. Volunteers commit to a monthly shift on the stall or provide occasional cover  as needed.
