LSC Workshop with Tony Sumpter.
Many thanks to Tony Sumpter for a very enjoyable and intensive Life Drawing workshop in August in Knighton Parish Centre. He gave lots of advice and exercises to stretch us throughout the 3 hours. Looking forward to more of them next year.

In the frame...
Simon The Framer in Leicester gave a great talk/demo in August on framing. Members got a chance to play around with frames and mounts over their work, learn about the different kinds of framing methods available and to see some of the bespoke paint effects he creates on frames. Really informative - many thanks Simon.

Leicester Sketch Club Past and Present...
|
|
|
|
Our 3-month run in the New Walk Museum has finally ended.
The exhibition's success has helped to promote the Club and its members' work. It was wonderful to follow the history of the paintings from our earliest members to the present day and to see the high standard set by our founders, still in evidence today.
Innovations such as the 'Sketch Book' and two Museum Sketch Days were an exciting way to engage the public and fellow artists alike.
Congratulations to 8 members who sold their work. They include Barbara Taylor-Harris, Jenny Riseborough, Shirley Easton, Alison Cork, Janet Alderson-Smith, John Nixon, Joan Roobottom and Vivien Blackburn.
The Committee wishes to give its appreciation and thanks to everyone who helped with dismantling the exhibition, the packing of paintings, the administration and of course the clean-up at the end.
We are indebted to everyone who volunteered their time and skills in the planning, manning and running of the exhibition. We are certain that it has been very worthwhile and we feel very excited about the coming months and look forward to see what 2016 will hold for the LSC.

Sock Gallery Exhibition
28th January - 19th March 2016
Sock Gallery - Loughborough Town Hall
Market Place, Loughborough, LE11 3EB
This is a bonus exhibition in addition to our Annual Exhibition and gives us the opportunity to show our work in another part of the County, in the lovely surroundings of the Sock Gallery in the Town Hall in Loughborough in early 2016.
The committee will be issuing application forms in early October. Well done to Alison Cork as her painting has been used for online publicity by the Gallery. The committee sent a selection of images to their publicity department to choose from. If you would like your work to be included in general publicity in the future, please email: enquiries@leicestersketchclub.co.uk as we are currently lacking in fresh material to use.
The Sock Gallery will permit us to hang up to 50 paintings in the gallery so unfortunately, the committee will only be able to accept work from the first 50 application forms.

Annual exhibition 2016
Newarke Houses Museum
Saturday 10th - 15th September
The committee are delighted to announce that the Club’s Annual Exhibition for 2016 will be held in the Newarke Houses Museum in Leicester from Saturday 10th Sept – Thursday 15th Sept 2016.
The exhibition will be held in Gallery 2 & 3 in the same location as the Leicester and East Midland Open 26 Exhibition. Handing in will be on Friday 9th Sept. 2016.
There will be a ‘garden party’ style preview on the 10th Sept. in the afternoon. Unfortunately, an evening preview would be too expensive due to extra staffing costs.
The venue has white walls and track lighting and will be advertised in the Council's What’s on brochure, website and the Leicester Link.

Exhibition 2017
The committee will be sending in an application soon to exhibit in the new Gallery space in the Attenborough Arts Centre for 2017. Since they will favour proposals with a themed approach, Milan Popowich has kindly volunteered to work on developing this. We welcome ideas from members that might inform the proposal so if you have any suggestions, please email him at : enquiries@leicestersketchclub.co.uk

LSC Club Exhibition Screens
The committee is currently looking into the pros and cons of retaining the Club’s display screens and aims to produce a report for members to consider before the AGM.
Storage of our screens is currently costing the club over £450 each year and now the additional fee for delivery and set up is approximately £400. Therefore, the Committee would like to research alternatives, including the practicalities of hiring stands should we need them in the future and compare the costs.
Although these high-quality screens have been extremely useful in the past, given that the situation now is different, ie, we would like to aim to exhibit in galleries or spaces with integral hanging spaces, we would like to find out if it makes financial sense to hold onto them. The considerable sum of money saved could be used to hire dedicated gallery spaces such as Newarke Houses or Sock, or towards promoting exhibitions.
If anyone has strong views for or against this or would like to help the committee's research and preparation of the report, please email at: enquiries@leicestersketchclub.co.uk
