AUTUMN  2016                                      WWW.COUNTRYHOMEIDEAS.COM.AU

Many of us mark the seasons with different traditions and habits and as one of our favourite seasons approaches, we are remembering how lovely autumn can be. As we look towards the cooler months, we are making plans to spend more quality time at home. With shorter days, we tend to while away more hours indoors so now is a great opportunity for a good autumn house clean and maybe the opportunity to repaint or rearrange furniture. It’s a never-ending process but one that can be endlessly fun and rewarding.
We’ve discovered a very stylish and effective way of organising spaces in your home. Space Cubes are designed to hold all your important items without taking up valuable surface space. They are perfect for the home office, kitchen counter or craft area. They have three horizontal paper trays, one vertical paper holder, and multiple compartments. They are also docking stations for phones and tablets allowing you to hide power strips and cords. There are two versions, a bamboo one and an acrylic one, both $44.99 each.
It’s easy to prepare hearty and healthy meals during the cooler months with this Morphy Richards Slow Cooker 48730. With a generous 6.5-litre capacity, toughened glass lid and removable ceramic pot for easy cleaning, simply add your ingredients to the pot and switch it on, then leave it to count down to its default cooking time of six hours on the digital display and automatically switch over to the Keep Warm setting. Including a two-year replacement warranty, it retails for $99 at Appliances Online.

We made a visit to Taste of Sydney at Centennial Park, in partnership with Electrolux, to experience Electrolux Chefs’ Secrets. It was a great way for visitors to Taste to learn secret tips and techniques first hand from one of a group of Australia's leading chefs. The masterclass we sat in on featured chef Luke Mangan and we helped cook up a tempting dish of grilled sardines with a green tomato chutney and a radish salad. Luke’s tip: “Even the plumpest WA Sardines need no more than 30 seconds (skin down, in a griddle) on the induction cooktop. A high heat will seal in the flavours and they’ll continue to cook after they’ve been taken off the cooktop.”
Available in May, Australians will be able to own the next generation of wireless technology from Luxaflex Window Fashions. We attended a preview of the all-new PowerView motorisation, an intelligent operating system that lets homeowners control their blinds throughout the day with the press of a button, a tap of a mobile device or by scheduling personalised settings that activate automatically. The system is paired with an ergonomically designed PowerView Pebble remote control, available in seven colours. With this advanced system, it is simple for homeowners to balance the different lighting and privacy needs of each room in the house.
Thanks to Husqvarna, our urban and green spaces will be more pleasant and quiet places to visit. We were recently introduced to Husqvarna’s new range of hand-held garden tools and the latest innovation is their quiet, light-weight, high-performance battery-powered  chainsaws, grass trimmers and brushcutters, hedge trimmers and blowers. We were especially ‘blown away' by the new quiet battery-powered blower with 8-hour runtime and a boost function.
We had a sneak preview of the new Autumn/Winter range of Hunter boots and were impressed by all the styles and colours. From adjustable rubber boots to sneakers, socks and biker boots, this British heritage Wellington boot collection earns its credentials for practicality and sturdiness.
The team braved a wet and wild Sydney morning recently to head to the launch of an innovative new colour trends concept by Haymes Paint – the Colour Library. Held in the C.U.B. Suite at the Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale, guests enjoyed a beautiful breakfast while hearing from Colour & Concept Manager Wendy Rennie talk about the change in how the company will release its colours and its new focus on building an evolving palette based on personal interest and style. With the inaugural launch including seven volumes – Curate, Collaborate, Timeless, Consider, Form, Conscious and Experience – the first volume Curate was unveiled in partnership with Etsy with some of its artisans and craftspeople creating pieces inspired by the new colours within the palette.

With cooler temperatures making time spent outside more pleasant, autumn is also the perfect planting time for many plants as the soil is still warm enough for root growth. Whether you have a large backyard or just a few pots on the balcony, now is the time to grow some herbs and vegies, plant new shrubs and trees and prepare the soil for winter.
