SCOPE: Skills Recognition, Capacity Building and Professional Education for the voluntary sector

Together with our European partners, SCVO is developing an e-learning platform especially for small voluntary sector organisations.  Known as SCOPE, this exciting project is funded by ERASMUS+, the European Commission’s programme for education, training, youth and sport.

The SCOPE training platform will cover the following key topics:

  • Governance
  • Fundraising
  • Financial Management
  • Risk Management
  • Communications

Modules will provide entry level information and learning on important matters related to running a voluntary sector organisation. One of the goals of SCOPE is to provide a quality training offering to small organisations that may face economic or geographic barriers to accessing traditional face-to-face training.

In order to test the platform, we will be running two pilot phases in Scotland. In total we want to involve 50 individuals – staff, volunteer and trustees, from small organisations in the trial, with a view to launching in Autumn 2020.

What’s involved?

Individuals will work though all five modules as a part of the package, each one taking approximately 60 minutes to complete. To help us refine and improve the platform, we’ll seek your feedback via online surveys and reviews.

When will the pilot training course take place?

We will be seeking pilot participants between November 2019 and May 2020. We will keep you posted on the dates in the coming weeks. The main thing is that you can commit to piloting the platform and providing feedback on 5 online training modules during a 12 week period between November 2019 and May 2020.

How do I sign up?

Ready to help us out? Enter your details before 2 September 2019 to be in with a chance to take part in this free training offer.  We will get back to you with more information on how it works in mid-September.

Public invited to take part in Shaping Orthopaedic Services consultation

People are being encouraged to attend engagement events as part of the consultation on proposals to redesign orthopaedic services in Tayside.
As part of its wider Transforming Tayside plans, NHS Tayside is proposing to make changes to where surgeons, doctors and nurses deliver orthopaedic surgery in the region, including planned operations and unplanned trauma operations.

People in Tayside are currently being consulted on the following clinically preferred proposal for orthopaedic services:
  • All UNPLANNED orthopaedic surgical trauma operations will be carried out at Ninewells Hospital. Patients who require further care will be transferred back to a suitable hospital closest to home within 48-72 hours after their unplanned surgery, as long as they are well enough.
  • Centres of excellence for PLANNED surgery, which is the most common type of orthopaedic surgery, will be established in Perth Royal Infirmary and continue at Stracathro Hospital. A centre of excellence is where expert health professionals work together to provide the very best specialist care and treatment for patients in a dedicated area or site.
  • More planned orthopaedic operations will be carried out in Perth Royal Infirmary and Stracathro Hospital, resulting in around 400 more operations per year and a reduction in waiting times.
The proposed redesign of orthopaedic services will create a service that allows NHS Tayside to deliver high quality care, respond to growing numbers of patients, reduce patient waiting times and make best use of our three acute hospital sites.

To ensure that our patients, their families, staff and members of the public have the chance to be involved and share their views on the proposals, NHS Tayside is holding public engagement events throughout August and September.

The Transforming Tayside public events will include special engagement sessions as part of the three-month public Shaping Orthopaedic Services consultation, which runs until 31 October.

The wider Transforming Tayside public events are being held on the following dates:
  • Saturday, 24 August, 2019, between 10am and 12.30pm at North Inch Community Campus, Gowans Terrace in Perth
  • Saturday, 7 September, 2019, between 10am and 12.30pm at Harris Academy, Perth Road in Dundee
  • Saturday, 28 September, 2019, between 10am and 12.30pm at Forfar Community Campus, Kirriemuir Road in Forfar
To register your interest in attending the public events or if you require assistance with travel, please contact 0800 783 6110 or email transforming.tayside@nhs.net

Smaller community pop-up information stands for Shaping Orthopaedic Services, where people can find out more and give their feedback, will also take place across Tayside on the following dates:
  • Friday, 23 August, 10am to 12noon, reception area, Whitehills Community Health and Community Care Centre, Forfar
