ICYMI: Bond Commission Greenlights Funding For Hartford's Sweeping Downtown North Project

Final approvals for Hartford’s Downtown North project are still months away, but the State Bond Commission has already signed off on funding for the first phase of development.

The group on Thursday authorized borrowing $12 million to support the construction of 200 apartments behind the Red Lion Hotel on Trumbull Street — the first leg of a massive, $200 million development effort around Dunkin’ Donuts Park. The city is in talks with Randy Salvatore, owner of Stamford-based RMS Cos., to oversee the project, which includes a total of 800 housing units, 60,000 square feet of retail and several parking structures.

ICYMI: Construction Begins On Elaborate Food Market In Hartford's Parkville Neighborhood
The long vacant warehouse at 1400 Park St., less than a mile from the city’s western gateway, showed signs of life Thursday as the developer behind an ambitious effort to build a food hall plunged a golden shovel into the ground, marking the start of construction on the 20,000-square-foot facility.

Carlos Mouta envisions two floors of food vendors and other retail outlets in the building he purchased at the turn of the century. A produce section, a test kitchen and an entertainment space complete with a wet bar are in the carefully laid plans for the venture, dubbed the Parkville Market.

ICYMI: Developer Eyes Prominent Frog Hollow Corner For Row House-Style Apartment Project
Hub on Park

The corner of Park Street and Park Terrace, a leafy green enclave that faces the entrance of Pope Park, is the latest target for sweeping redevelopment in Hartford’s Frog Hollow neighborhood.

The Mutual Housing Association of Greater Hartford, the developer behind numerous rehabilitations in that community, envisions 36 units in a new, row house-style build along Park Street. Three multifamily homes on nearby York Street would be refurbished to create an additional nine apartments that, with the Park Street units, will collectively be known as the “Hub on Park” project. Most of the apartments would be offered as affordable housing.
