BCA Initiative - Meeting Wednesday 3rd April
As we have mentioned in previous newsletters, the London Borough of Brent have implemented a Black Caribbean Achievement Initiative across all Brent Schools. We would now like to invite parents from a Black Caribbean heritage to share their experience with Woodfield School and the education system, with the aim of improving our provision. The meeting, to be chaired by Mr Murray, will be at Woodfield School next Wednesday, April 3rd at 10:30am. Light refreshments will be provided.

International Evening - Wednesday 22nd May
Woodfield will be celebrating out multicultural community again. International Evening will take place on Wednesday 22nd May from 5pm-6.30pm. . This is a chance to cook, taste and share your national dish with other parents, pupils and their family, alongside entertainment. A range of free food covering all the continents of the world will be available. If you would like to participate and cook your national dish, please contact Patsy or Mr Murray. Look out for further information and tickets for this event.

Sufra NW London
Sufra NW-London is a charity based in Stonebridge which provides a food bank and community kitchen services to those in need. Woodfield School is now working with Sufra as a referral agency. We are able to issue a voucher to parent/carer to enable them to visit and be provided with a food parcel which contains a week’s supply of food for the whole family. If you require more information or assistance, please contact Patsy, our Parent Liaison Officer. Rest assured, as always, that meetings of this nature are treated confidentially.

Easy Fundraising
easyfundraising turns your everyday online shopping into free donations for Woodfield School. How? Just start your online shopping first at easyfundraising, then shop as normal. The retailers will then make a small donation to say “thank you”. There is no cost to you, and you are not charged extra by the retailer. Purchases from Amazon, eBay, Argos, John Lewis and hundreds more retailers can help to raise money for the school to be spent on trips for pupils and equipment in the playground, for example.

e-Safety update
Parents with younger children may find these resources helpful. Jessie & Friends is a series of three animations provided by NCA-CEOP. The animations follow the adventures of Jessie, Tia and Mo as they navigate the online world, watching videos, sharing pictures and playing games. There is a storybook for each episode, to help you and your child keep the conversation going at home. The key message throughout Jessie & Friends is that if a child is ever worried about anything they come across online, they should tell a grown-up they trust, who will help them. Click here for full details, videos and activities.

Term dates for 2019-2020
We have changed the presentation format which we hope you will find easier to understand. Please note Monday 28th October will be an additional day to half term break. If there are any changes, which we do not expect, you will be informed through this email, and by text message. The term dates are posted on the website here.

Diarrhoea and Vomiting
Diarrhoea and vomiting are common in adults, children and babies. We have had a few cases over the last couple of weeks, so we thought we'd include this advice from the NHS. Diarrhoea and/or vomiting are often caused by a stomach bug and should stop in a few days. If your child is affected by diarrhoea or vomiting, they should stay off school or work until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days. Please read the NHS advice on diarrhoea or vomiting, and check out NHS advice "Is my Child too ill for school?" which may help you with making a decision about whether or not to keep your child home for the day. as always, we recommend you seek professional medical advice if you are unsure of anything.

Parent Carer Advice Sessions
Do you need advice or support? The Brent Carers Centre is a charity providing advice and guidance to family carers in Brent on a wide range of subjects including benefits. See their website for more details, or phone 020 3802 7070.

The next session is on Monday May 20th. Please contact Patsy at Woodfield on 0208-205-1977 if you would like to attend a clinic, or for any further information.

Makaton
Makaton is a language programme that is used in conjunction with speech to aid the pupils’ understanding of language and help them communicate with each other more effectively. Makaton is used across the school in lessons and break times. We would love for you to learn some signs so that you can sign with your child. See the We Talk Makaton website for more.
