Woodfield Weekly Blue Sheet
25th May 2018
Dear Parents and Carers
Half Term Holiday
We now have a week to relax, recharge our batteries and enjoy ourselves and I hope you will be able to find some fun and interesting activities to take part in during the week. Please make sure that your child is ready to come back to school on Monday 4th June 2018.
This year our Summer Fair will be held on Monday, July 2nd at 1:30 pm. Last years' fair was a great success, with a wide variety of food and gift stalls selling products made by the Key Stage 3 pupils in their enterprise classes in the Summer Term. More details will follow, and we hope you can make it along to this fun event.
Polite reminder to all parents that the school car park is reserved for staff, transport busses and authorised visitors only. Due to the lack of space and the amount of transport buses entering and leaving the school, it causes a build-up of unnecessary traffic and is unsafe for our pupils, especially those travelling independently. There are two roads available besides the school on which parents can park and then walk the pupil into the school.
Basic Makaton Session - Thursday 24th May.
A big thanks to all the parents and carers who attended. It was a very valuable session.
Warm Weather / Uniform
As the weather is getting warmer please make sure you label your child’s school jumpers. When it is hot, jumpers get left all over the school and without a name on the label it is impossible to find the owner. Pupils may also bring a water bottle to school and carry it to lessons. They can fill it up from the water fountains at break and lunchtime. Please do all you can to get your child organised. Please check that school uniform, pencil case and PE kit are all in place. Remember we do not allow logos- just plain black trousers, shoes, jumpers and a white polo shirt. Full details of uniform policy are available on our website.
A message to remind all parents and carers that the school is surrounded by grass and it is the season for high pollen, if you could administrator your child with hay fever relief if required please. Click here for NHS guidance on Hay Fever.
We must have emergency contact details for all our pupils. It is vital that we are able to get hold of a contact person in the case of a pupil emergency or illness. We have had issues in contacting parents or guardians, which not only creates concern for the school but also makes pupils anxious. Please inform the School Office as a matter of priority with any change of address or telephone numbers. If you are unsure whether your contact details are up to date, please contact the school office to check.
General Data Protection Regulation
You may be aware of the changes to the Data Protection laws coming on May 25th this year, when the General Data Protection regulation (GDPR) comes into force, replacing the Data Protection Act (1998). You should have received text messages this week details changes to the way we follow data protection and privacy legislation. These are also available on our website.
Makaton is a language programme that is used in conjunction with speech to aid the pupils’ understanding of language and help them communicate with each other more effectively. Makaton is used across the school in lessons and break times. We would love for you to learn some signs so that you can sign with your child. See the We Talk Makaton website for more.
