Woodfield Weekly Blue Sheet

Friday 10th January 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Spring term
Welcome back to all our students. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year.
The next half term break will be the 17th-21st February.

PLP Day - Target setting - Friday 24th January
The spring term PLP meetings will be held between 8:30am and 3pm on Friday 24th January. You will receive a text message next week with a link to book a meeting time with your child's form tutor.

Pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 will attend school on Friday 24th January. If your child is in year 10, 11, 12, 13 or 14,(i.e. Key Stage 4 or 5), you are encouraged to bring them along to the PLP, as at previous meetings.

Emergency Contact
Due to a change in safeguarding regulations that came into force at the start of the last academic year, in addition to parent/carer details, we must have at least two other persons as emergency contacts for all our pupils. These people could be parents, a sibling aged over 18, aunts, uncles etc. If you have changed your mobile number or email address, can you advise the school office so we can update our records.

It is vital that we are able to get hold of a contact person in the case of a pupil emergency or illness.  In the past we have had issues in contacting parents or guardians, which not only creates concern for the school but also makes pupils anxious.

The Keeping Children Safe in Education September 2019 document guidance has full details. Therefore, we will be requesting this information from all parents/carers shortly.

School Uniform
We have noticed a slip in the school uniform standards across Years 7-11. In particular, the following have started to appear:

Hoodies: (not allowed at all, even during break times and afterschool)
Coloured trainers: (plain black trainers are permitted, but the logo must be marked out)
Tracksuit pants: (must be plain black school trousers or skirt)
T-shirts: (white POLO shirt only - school mentors and council members are given different colours)

Please contact your form tutor if you are having problems with you child wanting to wear the correct school uniform and we will be able to help.

Nut free School
Dear Parents/guardians, please ensure if your child has packed lunches, they do not contain NUTS (Nutella spread, chocolate, yoghurts with nuts inside) We are a nut free zone school. Thank you for your co-operation. There is a section regarding school lunches on our website. Click here for details

School Money
Reminder to all parents/carers that we are a cashless school and take card payments via the School Money website or phone. Everyone should have received log in information via text by now, if you haven't then please contact Laila or Shilpa via the school office. We advise all parents to keep up with payments. You are able to pay in advance per week or per term, whichever method suits you best. If you have any questions regarding this then please feel free to contact Laila or Shilpa.

Easy Fundraising
easyfundraising turns your everyday online shopping into free donations for Woodfield School. How? Just start your online shopping first at easyfundraising, then shop as normal. The retailers will then make a small donation to say “thank you”. There is no cost to you, and you are not charged extra by the retailer. Purchases from Amazon, eBay, Argos, John Lewis and hundreds more retailers can help to raise money for the school to be spent on trips for pupils and equipment in the playground, for example.

Have a look at the video below. There is also an iPhone/iPad app and an android app which you can install once you've registered. Use the links below to install on your device.

If you use the Chrome browser, you can install an extension to get donation reminders if the retailer you are visiting is part of the scheme. Easy dot Peasy!

Watch this short video to see how this all works!
https://youtu.be/f7CnWvknl-AMakaton
Makaton is a language programme that is used in conjunction with speech to aid the pupils’ understanding of language and help them communicate with each other more effectively. Makaton is used across the school in lessons and break times. We would love for you to learn some signs so that you can sign with your child. See the We Talk Makaton website for more.
This week's sign is Healthy

Have a great weekend.
