ALEXANDRU TOMESCU AND ANGELA DRĂGHICESCU TO OPEN OUR 2017 'ENESCU CONCERTS' SERIES

The 2017 programme of our beloved 'Enescu Concerts' Series debuts with a homage to the unforgettable pianist and composer Dinu Lipatti, 100 years since his birth, offered by charismatic duo Alexandru Tomescu (violin) and Angela Drăghicescu (piano). The peak of the all-Romanian programme, featuring pieces by George Enescu and Tiberiu Olah, is Lipatti’s 'Sonatina for violin and piano', a brilliant piece that demonstrates the tragic musician’s outstanding skills as a composer. With an evocation of Lipatti’s life and work by writer and music enthusiast Orlando Murrin. more

KASPER HOLTEN MADE COMMANDER OF ROMANIA'S ORDER OF FAITHFUL SERVICE 

The visionary Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden is awarded one of the most important Romanian decorations in a special ceremony conducted by HE Mr Dan Mihalache, the Romanian Ambassador to the Court of St James’s, with a laudatio by the RCI director Dorian Branea, which will open the first event in 2017 of our popular 'Enescu Concerts' Series. The distinction rewards Kasper Holten’s ground-breaking contribution to the promotion of George Enescu’s musical genius in Britain and throughout the world. more

MATEI VIȘNIEC'S 'WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH THE CELLO' PREMIERES AT THE VAULT FESTIVAL

Atelier Studio Theatre and the Romanian Cultural Institute proudly present the British premiere of Matei Vişniec’s 'What Shall We Do with the Cello', a funny and sharply relevant play by Romania’s most prolific and celebrated contemporary playwright. The show is part of the VAULT Festival 2017. Amusing and dark, this surreal comedy is staged by a mainly Romanian creative crew: director Vasile Nedelcu, actors Simona Armstrong, Mihai Arsene and Tudor Smoleanu, cellist Nick Allen and choreographer Mălina Andrei. Music by avant-garde composer Iancu Dumitrescu. more

'STANDPOINT': ROMANIAN DESIGNERS AT THE LONDON FASHION WEEK 

We are delighted to announce our 7th consecutive participation at the International Fashion Showcase during the London Fashion Week. This year’s exhibition, entitled 'Standpoint', explores the intersections between the multiple layers of local and global – from reflections on the past and personal introspection, to the opportunities afforded by the wired world. Shining a spotlight on young creative talent, the Romanian project brings together five innovative designers boasting a striking sartorial style imbued with daring cuts and colours: Smaranda Almășan, Emese Bakó, Andreea Castrase, Sabina Pop, and Ancuța Sarca. CRISTIAN MUNGIU'S 'GRADUATION' AT DUBLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Over the past few years, the biggest film festival in Ireland – and our oldest partner across the Irish Sea  has celebrated Romanian cinema and film-makers through numerous projections, Q&A sessions and special events. At this year’s edition, the Irish cinephiles will discover Cristian Mungiu’s praiseful 'Graduation', the Palme d’Or director’s latest exploration of middle-class anxieties.
