August News and Events from WE Bike NYC!

August may not technically be the last month of summer, but it sure feels like it! WE're squeezing every last drop of summer out of this month with SIX cycling events. From learning about biking across India, to getting a dose of history and culture on Governors Island, to boogie-ing in the Bronx, WE hope to see you so that WE can enjoy the longer days and warm weather together!

You'll see the red umbrellas at the bar. Here's a map that shows you how to get there by bike from Riverside Drive or the Hudson River Greenway.

Route: Ride via East Side Bikeway to the Governors Island Ferry Building to get on the (FREE!) 11am shuttle

If you'd like to ride a Citi Bike (for FREE), you can meet us at the ferry and WE'll grab a Governors Island Citi Bike for you when WE get off the boat. (Let us know in the Facebook Event comments.)

After getting off the ferry, WE will ride the perimeter of the Island together and then WE'll check out some of the fabulous, free cultural events featured on the Island that day (and/or relax in the hammocks!). See the RSVP page for more info about all that is going on that weekend.

If you’d like to eat on the island, you can bring food or purchase something delicious from a wide variety of vendors. Participants can leave whenever they like – the ferry leaves for either Manhattan or Brooklyn on a regular basis throughout the day.

This is a beginner-friendly ride – the East River Greenway and Governors Island are both car-free. Bring your bike or spend some time on a Citi Bike. WE'll unlock a bike for you on the island, you can ride with us and return it before you leave.

Bring water, cash for lunch (or pack your own), a lock and your helmet.

WE Ride to Boogie on the Boulevard
Sunday, August 26
12:00pm, wheels down 1:00pm, meet at Central Park Great Hill, Manhattan

If you want to skip the picnic you can meet us there at 1pm. There will also be food available at Boogie on the Boulevard.

Next, WE'll ride uptown on bike lanes and cross the beautiful High Bridge into the Bronx. When WE get to the Boogie on the Boulevard bike party there will be some surprises in store for us!
