June News and Events from WE Bike NYC!

WE kicked off biking season during May National Bike Month and WE're looking forward to riding with you all summer long. Keep reading to find out about the rides and get-togethers WE have planned for June!

WE Bike NYC Upcoming Events

WE Bike NYC's Intro to 9W Ride
Saturday, June 9
9am, wheels down 9:30, Il Caffe Latte - 189 Malcolm X Blvd (b/t 119th and 120th St), Manhattan
RSVP

Have you heard people talking about biking 9W along the New Jersey Palisades but never tried it yourself? Now's your chance: WE Bike NYC is offering another intro to 9W ride.

We'll start in Harlem and make our way up to and over the George Washington Bridge. Then we'll bike about 12 miles up to the 9W Market for lunch. Expect lots of hills, but the pace will be beginner-friendly and there will be plenty of encouragement and high-fives. After lunch we'll return as a group to the city, ending at our starting location in Harlem. Round-trip distance is approximately 34 miles. For this ride you will need a bike with gears that is in good working order. Bring water, snacks, money for lunch, a spare tube, a lock and your helmet.

**Note:**  This event is for women, female-identifying and gender non-conforming people only

WE Ride to the Mermaid Parade
Saturday, June 16
10:30am, wheels down at 11:30am, Grand Army Plaza under the arch, Brooklyn
RSVP

Join WE Bike NYC for a ride to the famous Coney Island Mermaid Parade! WE'll meet at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn (under the arch), ride through Prospect Park, and then take the Ocean Parkway bike path (the first bike path in the U.S.!) down to Coney Island. When we get to Coney Island we can grab a bite to eat and watch the parade, which begins at 1pm. This is a one-way ride. Please bring water, snacks, a bike lock, and your helmet.

**Note:**  This event is for women, female-identifying and gender non-conforming people only

WE Bike NYC Happy Hour
Thursday, June 21
7-9pm, The Astorian, 28-50 31st St, Queens

RSVP

It's summer and that means more bike adventures. Join us for chatting and new friend making at our monthly all-gender happy hour to hang out, build community, and talk bikes! This event is all gender, so invite your friends!

Please note that the 30th Avenue subway station might still be closed due to on-going MTA construction. Businesses in that area have reported a substantial decline in revenue since the closure so WE want to show some love, active transportation style. If you don't ride your own bike there, there is a Citibike station one block away or it's about a ten minute walk from the Astoria Blvd subway stop.

We Can't Do It Without You!

WE Bike NYC is an entirely volunteer-run organization, but it still takes a bit of money for us to maintain our current standards of operation!

If you are looking for a way to support fun, free, noncompetitive bicycle events and programming specifically for women, please consider donating to WE Bike NYC!
