New Student Orientation Favorites

We recently spent some time with our current students discussing their favorite moments of New Student Orientation. It's a weekend full of fun and celebration that helps introduce you to Cal Lutheran. Check out what some of our students said were their favorite parts:

  1. Painting the rocks: This long-running Cal Lutheran tradition is one that students truly enjoy!  As you hike up to the "CLU" rocks on Mt. Clef, you'll get to know your new classmates and — just maybe — get a little messy in the process.

  2. Playfair: Hang out and play lots of games and activities with your classmates. This session will be one where you truly have a blast while building community!

  3. Involvement Fair: Get to know all the different student clubs and organizations and find out how you can get involved.

  4. Meeting new people: You'll have lots of opportunities to meet new people during orientation. Be sure to say hello to as many new faces as you can!

  5. Moving in: For students living on campus, moving into your new room and meeting your roommates is one of the most exciting moments of the entire weekend!

Friendly Reminders

1. Housing Webinar: We are offering a housing webinar for you and your families to connect with our Residence Life team for an informal Q&A about living on campus at Cal Lutheran. Register here for our webinar on August 10 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

2. Course Schedule: As we move forward to the beginning of the semester, you may notice courses appearing in your MyCLU Portal. Please note this schedule is not yet finalized and subject to change as we approach the start of the academic year. We anticipate your schedule being ready in mid-August. An email will be sent to notify you when your schedule is finalized. If you have any remaining questions about your schedule, please contact the Academic Services office at

TRIO/Upward Bound & HSI Training

High school students participate in in a summer residential program through Cal Lutheran's TRIO Traditional Upward Bound program.
Recently, our TRIO Traditional Upward Bound program has been awarded $3.6 million by the Department of Education! The five-year grants comprise the largest amount Cal Lutheran has ever received for its program, which for 42 years has been motivating and preparing low-income and potential first-generation college students to continue their education beyond high school. Read more here.

Hispanic-Serving Institution Training

Cal Lutheran recently held a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) training session for all faculty and staff to learn more about the our federal HSI designation and how we serve our students with new initiatives and campus services.

Our HSI designation demonstrates the University's commitment to living out its mission within the changing context of student demographics. It is also a transformation that focuses on student success for all historically marginalized students. Learn more information about our HSI initiatives
