SPOTLIGHT:
Best Off-Campus Food Locations

As we inch closer to the new school year, we'll continue to provide you with awesome insights from our current students. For this newsletter issue we asked our students to give us their favorite off-campus spots. These local eateries range from classic food joints to great energy locations, and even do-it-yourself food experiences!

  1. Little Calf Creamery & Cafe - Here you can enjoy a delicious variety of ice cream desserts while enjoying hearty burgers, delectable sandwiches, and a number of tasty sides!

  2. The Stand - Come to The Stand and enjoy all of your classic American favorites! If you want to taste the best food from the finest local suppliers, The Stand is the place for you.

  3. Finney's - A family owned and operated restaurant that brings upscale cooking to casual dining. Their local, seasonal ingredients are the soul of their culinary inspired menu options.

  4. Side Street Cafe - Go visit Side Street Cafe to enjoy some amazing classic breakfast plates and lunch options. This establishment is a student favorite as it has been operating for 20 years in Ventura County!

  5. Janchi Korean BBQ - Janchi is a modern "self-grill" Korean BBQ restaurant. They are proud to serve high quality meats while you grill and enjoy all you can eat!

SOMETHING NEW:
Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

Recently our Center for Cultural Engagement and Inclusion kicked off the celebration of Pride Month with a Pride Flag raising on Regals Way. This flag raising was a campus recognition of the LGBTQ+ communities and celebration of Pride. This event was very engaging as students, faculty and staff shared testimonials while providing educational points to all Cal Lutheran community members.

As the month of June continues on, Samuelson Chapel will be hosting Chapel services dedicated to the campus-wide celebration of Pride Month.

HAPPENINGS ON CAMPUS:
45th Scandinavian Festival

Earlier this month Cal Lutheran had the pleasure of hosting the 45th Scandinavian Festival - the largest celebration of Nordic cultures in Southern California. Guests enjoyed music, dancing, cooking and craft demonstrations, specialty Nordic craft vendors, and an authentic Viking village. Younger Vikings were also able to enjoy Hans Christian Andersen puppet shows and make free Scandinavian craft souvenirs.

And of course food is always a highlight of the festival. Tasty foods like lefse, Viking Dogs, Scandinavian pastries and world-famous Æbleskivers were available to taste! Check out more about the festival here!
