The idea for a floral startup began at a Startup Weekend Ames event during April of 2013. We were tackling an issue for many people (including myself) who had experienced extremely poor service when ordering flowers online. Key problems included the time wasted scrolling through picture galleries, only to find out the flowers being delivered did not match the pictures they were ordered from.

Four Iowa organizations have partnered to bring training to small businesses in using social media as an effective marketing tool to use to grow their business.  Webster City Area Chamber of CommerceClear Lake Chamber of CommerceSocial Connections LLC and NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center all received requests for social media training and came together to bring experts in the small business arena who are using social media effectively.

Un-Traditional Start-A-Thon Gives Entrepreneurs a Chance to Start a Business

The startathon, a term coined by the tech industry, accelerates the startup process. The term typically invokes images of the tech industry, where white college guys start companies in a 48- 72 hour period, marathon style. The Iowa Black Business Coalition aims to break that stereotype with an event during Global Entrepreneurship week, especially for women and minority-owned businesses.
